Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 14 10:48 am)
So far no problems with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit (except one sudden unexplained crash). No problems after a reboot. Please note, I have NOT put the program through all of its paces yet, and I have not tried to link in other libraries/runtimes.
It probably is faster (so far) than Poser Pro, but not if GI is used. I think the memory management is better, and there may not be as many "out of memory" messages, or crashes to desktop while rendering.

I have Vista home premium 64 bits and 8 gigs ram .Was running Poser 7 and Poser 7 Pro without problem.I have installed Poser 8 yesterday It .seems working good but the libraries explorer need to be review according to me When you have multiple runtimes It works but it is confuse and hard to click and maintain selection when you have lots of stuff with multiple folders levels
Thanks very much to all of you. I am running Vista Home Premium 64 bit with 8 gigs too. Guess will install it along with Poser Pro and run side by side to see. Will also give my review of how it goes when I get in all installed. Will keep an eye out here in the forums as well. Once again thank you, I appreciate it.
I'm running Poser 8 in Vista 64bit.
I get no search results at all...nothing. Is there a trick to using Vista 64 bit?
It doesn't make any difference whether I run as Administrator or not. I do have UAC turned on.
Any help would be appreciated. I saw one other post at RunTime DNA with the same problem.

Make sure when you install Poser 8 you use the option in the beginning for Vista UAC. Also a friend had problems with her firewall blocking and not allowing certain things to run. I do not remember what her firewall was, but it is something you might want to check.
I have installed Poser 8 with Vista UAC and no problems with that part. The only two problems I am having is no textures or mat files are loading with either pz2s or cr2s or props. Still trying to figure that one out. Have ticket into Smith Micro but they are baffled as well. Hmmmm Also when loading more than one figure it wants to crash on me.
Am sure someone with more experience can help you better, just things I have found with mine.:)
Well I got it working by uninstalling, turning off UAC, reinstalling.
I hate to say it but that's just very poor quality control on their part. UAC in Vista has been around for 3 years now. This should not be a problem for application vendors.
For the record, my first install had UAC on and I chose to install it using the "for best backwords compatibility" option where it installs the runtime in a Poser directory on the c: drive vs. having the content installed on the shared User drive. The shared User drive was the default recommended option for users with Vista and UAC on.
The bottomline is Smith Micro should have been aware that the "backwords compatibility" install option will disable the search feature if you have UAC on in Vista when installing the application.
Now that Poser 8 is installed and the search feature does work as advertised, I turned UAC back on and everything seems to work ok.

Thanks for the update, sorry I could not be of more help. I agree on the poor quality control considering Vista is mainstream now and so is 64bit. It upsets me to no end they cannot make a program that runs properly on this machine without a lot of hassle on our part installing and placing it.
Glad ya got it though, perhaps this will help others. Yep, that is why I could not get textures..once I moved my runtime to the "public" folder which I HATE..it works fine! Go figure!

Hi everyone, been looking through the forums and cannot find my answer. I have ordered hard copy of Poser 8 to be here by end of week hopefully.
Is anyone running Poser 8 on 64 bit Vista? Is it running properly? I have 64 bit and run Poser Pro cause I could not get my Poser 7 to run on it. Hoping Poser 8 will run okay? Can someone please let me know on this. A little late asking with it already ordered, but I am slow. And have you found any driver issues with it on 64 bit?
Thanks very much if you can help me on this...looking forward to trying 8 out!! Am glad by the sounds of it went with hard copy mailed and not fool with downloading. Super happy to see they are on top of their product with a hotfix out already and SR1 out soon.
