Subject: Poser 5, V4

Hi, I noticed that daz is having a big sale on all the stuff I couldn't get for the last few years, including the morphs for V4. Before I buy though, I have a question about shaders. I do not know if they work in Poser 5, but - think - they are required for v4. If I use V4 in Poser 5 is she always going to be shiny?

thanks,
myst

Mats for Poser 5, P4, and PP seem to  work in Poser 5. Occasionally you'll run into mats for Poser 6 or 7, they don't seem to show up.

I use P5, and all I get with V4 is 'this seems to be  for a newer version, will load anyway' a few dozen times, but V4 herself works fine. Have been loading textures, and so far they seem to work. Just used V4 in the last pic, with a V4 character and a texture (2nd skin and morphs, injections. Admittedly, I can't afford to get the injections, but the mats seem to work fine).

If you get 'shiny', usually going into the Materials room and lowering the Specular value will take the gloss off...

V4 is not suggested for Poser5 , there are some issues with the joints of the hip in certain poses. She will generally work ok though.  The skin textures I have work fine in Poser 5 , you can always tweak the settings a little .

Good time to pick up stuff, sale ends this weekend .

I don't think there would be any insurmountalle problems with the textures in P5, some material nodes may not work, but you should be able to achive something that looks good with a bit of tweaking.

I think a bigger problem will be the version numbber used in V4. V4 uses a version number of "6". V4 also uses 'readScript' lines to apply a large number of pose filed to load morph channels etc. I think that means that you will get an error message, something like "The file is a newer version, Poser will attempt to read it anyway", then you have to click "OK" every time Poser tries to load one of the files. After you have loaded V4 once, you can save a copy to a pallet, using that copy you won't get the error messages, but you might have to go through the same procedure if you install a new morph pack.

Thanks for the input! How would I go about saving it ?

Saving is quite easy.  Just click the + sign on the bottom of the library for your figure folder (preferably a 'New Figures' folder).  This will add back your V4 and eliminate the error messages.
