Just been reading about the effects used in filming, this is going to be the next generation film by the sounds of it.

Cool!
You also might want to checkout a movie called "2012".

improvements in effects are always cool, but without a script all you got is 'Star Trek The Motion Picture'

Experience is no substitute for blind faith.

I worked for a short while on Avatar. Jeez...if I remember right that was over 2 years ago now...MAN, time flies.

Yeah, it looks as if Motion Capture technology and presenting movies in "3D" is not going away. (I have seen so many articles on it all being a fad) If they only knew how many such movies are already in some level of production...

Avatar...will be a great movie, absolutely no doubt. I think, though we'll see a few somewhat dissapointed viewers, as it is Cameron's first feature film since Titanic AND its science fiction. It's almost too much to live up to in some viewers' minds.

Well, coming up here on the 21st is "Avatar day" and they will be showing 16 minutes of the movie in Imax theatres, so that will be an interesting time. I am REALLY curious as to what other people will think when they see the footage. I am truly wondering if they will think its as kick ass as I have been touting it to be, lol.

We shall see.

I know that it's on my must-see list, just from a teaser they had posted on youtube. Amazing breakthroughs in animation technology!

dhama ( ) posted Thu, 20 August 2009 at 1:38 AM

Another SciFi movie that keeps up with tradition, the effects seem to make up for the script as usual......

*'Pandora is also the home to the Na’vi, a humanoid race that lives at what humans would consider to be a primitive level, but are actually much more evolutionarily advanced than humans.....'

'.....their warrior abilities unleashed.'

AgentSmith ( ) posted Thu, 20 August 2009 at 6:06 PM

Avatar somewhat reminds me of a plot from an old movie I saw with Dustin Hoffman called Little Big Man, in where Dustin through a series of turns finds himself with the native Indians. He becomes one with them and sees the killing of the Indians through his white mans eyes, but also as one of them.

There are solid shades of that in this story of Avatar.

Btw, you should check out Little Big Man sometime. It is an underrated classic, period.

Glad to see the Avatar teaser trailer is out now. I feel like I've been keeping a secret for the last 2.5 years, lol.

Thanks for the link Dan.

There is one scene in the teaser that reminds me of another place that exists in the game Guild Wars. Top pic is from the movie.

There was a mention of this on UK national tv. It looks amazing and the storyline sounds very cool.

Dan, trailer link works but there's no trailer.

Check to see if you are "blocking popups", that has killed the video link for me in the past (at apple), but on the other hand they were having problems with those links working when they first tried to bring it online.

 Also try here;
http://www.movie-list.com/trailers.php?id=avatar

Even though movie-list has the same HD trailer from apple, it loads up in your browser instead of making Quicktime start up.

Lol...hey I went and saw it, blew my socks off.

Lemme say this. When I originally watched that online teaser trailer, it was in 1080 HD on a 26" screen...and I loved it....but that has now failed utterly in comparison to seeing it for real.

And, that's not really because it was on a bigger screen or in 3D (but yes, that does help considerably with the "cool" factor"), but the scenes they showed TRULY showed off the subtle attributes of the Na’vi. Those tiny little "humanistic" movements that make things more realistic to our subconscience eye.

I mean, yes it ALL looked very realistic. But, those little ticks were there, that is more important, imho.

And, yes, it was also frackking amazing eye candy and action to boot, lol.

They NEED to release that 16 minutes they showed us to the online world. The current online teaser trailer just does not do the film any justice. And, I say that knowing that current teaser does look awesome. The real thing....is seriously just that good.

Yup, me and my buddies are already making the plan to do a mass gathering and go see it the first weekend its out. This really IS going to pump up the Motion Capture and 3D aspect of the movie business (like they were hoping it would)

Btw, now that it is public knowledge, I can now finally mention that the company that I have worked for in the past (Image Movers Digital; "A Christmas Carol" & "Mars Needs Moms") will be doing a Motion Capture produced movie of "Yellow Submarine". Whether or not Robert Zemeckis will direct or just produce is not known yet, but if I were to guess, I would say he would direct, since it is such a high profile entity, meaning The Beatles.

LINK to the news.
