Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 29 1:24 pm)
I have found that sometimes when Poser locks up or will not render, If you do a ctrl-alt-delete and then when it ask end task, hit cancel and it will re-open the file that Poser is looking for. This has worked for me, maybe it will work in this case. Save your file right then and reopen. Doesn't work all the time. This is on PC (256ram) skee

Before you upgrade your RAM, upgrade your operating system to Windows 2000. Win98 is the source of your problems. I can render Vicky2 with the Daz High-Res textures (the most resource-intensive textures of them all, far more so than Asia) on an AMD K6-2 450 with 128 MB of RAM, running Win2K Professional. However, when trying to render the SAME scene on my other machine -- a machine thats 10x as powerful (T-Bird 1100Mhz, 640MB of RAM, 64MB Geforce2 Ultra) -- running Win98 or ME it freezes almost ALL of the time. Win9x has very poor memory management skills, and that is the root of your problem. Even if you were to add a GB of RAM to your machine you would still freeze under 9x. (And yes, WinME is a 9x OS -- its just a glorified win98)
I can confirm InBlack's statement. I had the exact same problem with Victoria 2.0 and high resolution textures on a Win98 computer with 640 MB (that's 640, not 64). I changed my operating system to Windows 2000 Professional and haven't had the problem since then. I do have some minor problems with parts of the interface disappearing from time to time, but if I minimize and then maximize Poser, the interface shows up again. I paid $219 for Windows 2000, but you can find upgrades for a whole lot less if you shop really well. I wouldn't have done it, but I had just bought the Pro Pack and a bunch of models and textures and really wanted to get it to work right away.
I am on Win 2000 and that texture sometimes locks. It's looking for the bump maps, I think if you take them out of the cr2 it will not lock. I think there should be a separate file for people who have poser pro pack without the bump maps set up for Poser 4.03 The only time it seems to lock up is when it's looking for that second bump map. I'm going to modify my cr2 today to have it ask for the jpg bump maps instead and see if that helps. Wish me luck and I'll let you know how it goes. Marque

Here's the deal: I can render the P4 Woman all day long and no problems. The first 2 times I render Vicky with the ASIA skin kit it renders fine. The 3rd time it freezes. Not a hard-lock, I can still use other apps, Poser just stops responding and I cannot cancel the render or click on any menu items, but when I mouse over the menu it highlights, I just cannot click. When I go back in, everything works fine, but when I go to render, there's a 90% chance it will lock. If I reboot the machine, the first 2 renders are fine, then it goes downhill. Question is, if Poser runs out of RAM, does it suppress the error message and just lock up? Before upgrading fro Poser4 to 4.03 (or whatever current is, I had Poser for about 20 minutes before upgrading...) I would get out of memory errors that crashed the program, now I don't get errors, just dumped. Anyone else on here have, and solve, this problem? I'm going to upgrade my RAM, but am interested in finding out if it's not memory at all but something else I need to fix. My system: Asus A7V133 Mobo Athlon Tbird 1.33GHz 256MB CAS2 PC133 SDRAM 2XIBM GXP75 7200 RPM ATA100 Drives (20 and 30GB) Visiontek Geforce3 64MB Lotsa other crap that isn't pertainent. Anyone with a similar rig and the VICKY2 / ASIA model plz let me know if you've had the same problems. Thanks a ton!
