I'm creating a model of a creature somewhat like a carnivorous plant, and I was wondering if anyone had some helpful hints on how to make a texture that appears sticky.....any help would be appreciated!

perhaps a little translucent displacement mapping with high levels of specularity might work?

play with some honey for real... shine light on it, let it drizzle back into the jar... watch it to see what makes it LOOK sticky.  if you have access to something like fly paper, thats an even better one to play with.  better yet... take pictures of whats going on so you can reference it as you're working on the materials.  but with the referencing and "experimenting" - you know more intimately what you want out of the material other than "looks sticky" (for example... i'd like a material that appears as if when you put your finger on it and pull away, you get loooong tendrils stuck, but itsn't terribly shiny....)

thing is, is memory is very subjective, which is why i suggested experiments... from what i REMEMBER - a venus fly trap "goo" is shiny & mostly clear, appears to have a fairly light viscosity, and creates those long tendrils (if you're stupid enough to stick your finger in it - yeah, my nickname was NEVER brainiac.)... otherwise, it looked like dew or water laying in the bottom, waiting for a bug (or a stupid human girl's finger)

LOL - for me, it was the venus fly trap... next visit to the same place.... my finger went into a pitcher plant.  i dont think i ever really learned. ;)
