A little off topic (so sorry OP), but I got a little frustrated with the otherwise amazing VSS skin prop adjusting the shading domains on some of my props and clothing that happened to have names like "arm"band, etc.  I built a new VSS prop that is just for the Mil4 bunch.  It looks for exact shading domain names and only adjusts those.

If anyone is interested in them, let me know by site mail, or just let me know if I should start another thread.  I don't want to hijack this one.  I would like to know if there's interest in me sharing this.

I loaded the skin shaders with Bagginsbill's lastest PR3 shader.

I must warn you though, I separated the skin shaders into three, face, limbs and torso.  I did this because I like to mix the spec maps that come with any given character with some of the spec maps I like better.  I suppose I could easily make two versions, and all-skin and a separate-skin.

I also put separate templates in for eye-whites, eye-surface, lacrimals, tear, tongue, nails and lips.  This doesn't cause any trouble if you don't want to adjust them, it just allows the adjustment if you want it.  (BagginsBill, I know, leave the lips the same as the face, but sometimes I want a bit more shine and I haven't yet built a map that will blend the lips into the face)

Anyway, if and when there's a new VSS prop for P8 as the OP has requested, I can copy those shaders into my prop as well.

Indi.

You wouldn't need a new prop - just some new shaders.

I'm a bit unclear yet as to what the best settings are for P8. And, I'm working on Library GUI changes for SR1 before I do any shader work.

Okay, I understand fully! Being a sufferer of no Library-no-matter-what-I-do, I can hope the serial update might help me.

LL, are you still working with SM on your library? If it is completely blank, it is a system configuration issue, and SR1 isn't going to fix it.

I can't remember where you left it. Regardless of what browser you favor, you have to be able to run Flash in IE. Firewalls have to let programs in your computer talk to other programs in your computer, etc. Are you certain you have no firewall blocking 127.0.0.1? Are you certain Poser has been allowed to open its listening port, 11530? Can you perform an XML query from your browser (any browser) against Poser and see if it answers with data from your library?

While Poser is running, click this link.

Do you get some XML back?

How about this one, do you see a double checkbox button?

Okay, I have to answer this in several parts here with screen shots. When I clicked the first link under Firefox, it was blocked. I'll attached the screen. After clicking the little option button at the top I got a dialogue box related to a No Script plugin for Firefox with a bunch of tabs. One of the tabs was called ABE and I unchecked this think and clicked the link again under Firefox and got XML back. Clicked the second link in Firefox and got the double checkbox button.

At this point, the Poser Library will still show under Firefox if I open LSMGUI.html in the browser. The Library will not open under IE.

Barging in just to mention my expiriences.. since I'm nosy I clicked the two links. And I have Poser 8 running in the background - with no problems, I might add. My library shows up just fine. But again.. I was curious.

The first link does absolutely nothing. It opens a completely blank page in my browser (GoogleChrome). The second link gives me the button with the double checkmark.

What was the first link supposed to do again?

And LL.. do you have Norton or similar on your computer? It is known to cause all sorts of problems. It may keep virusses away, but it also acts very proprietary towards legit programs.

You should get something like this on the first link. IE 8

 <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>

TrekkieGrrrl: Google Chrome might be the same as Safari - when I click that link I get a blank page, and I have to right click and 'View Source' to see the XML.

Well, see, that's what we've been talking about. You have a firewall blocking applications from using the network protocols for communication within your computer.

IE is being blocked by some plugin, preventing you from accessing any server on your own machine.

That is not a server error - that's some plugin doing that.

Found this here, about some other program (Radio) with a similar setup as Poser. It too has a local server.

http://radio.userland.com/stories/storyReader$30021

Cannot connect due to potential loopback problems [code=CANT_CONNECT_LOOPBACK] Cannot connect due to potential loopback problems

If you receive this error or a 500 Server Error when trying to connect to Radio's desktop website at http://127.0.0.1:5335/ using Internet Explorer on Windows, you may try disabling the automatic detect settings for your network connection.

Steps

  1. In Internet Explorer, choose Tools->Internet Options.

  2. Click the Connections tab.

  3. Click the LAN Settings button.

  4. Uncheck the "Automatically detect settings" box, click OK and then click OK. Then retry loading the Radio desktop website.

By the way, the word "localhost" is supposed to mean your local computer, using the pre-defined address 127.0.0.1.

Some beta testers found that "localhost" was incorrectly set up by Microsoft on Vista and any other machines that also implement IP V6 (new Internet protocol). The IP V6 notation for the local address is ::1. This was mentioned in the problem-solving notes for Poser. So we switched to using 127.0.0.1 explicitly.

Some Google postings I found claim the opposite - that 127.0.0.1 does not work, but localhost does work.

Some found that correcting the hosts file in Windows fixed this problem. Again, this is in the problem solving notes on this issue published recently by SM in this forum. Can't remember where.

The same problem occurs with Google Desktop, which also has a mini web server in it.

It is used to display content searches from your own computer. Same issue. Same fix. Happens in FireFox, too.

Ohh pooh! I'd rather have good looking skin (and any other shaders), then big pictures in the library. (Note I tried turning down the SSS and lowering the red, but doesn't seem to be good enough).

indigone I'd like to a copy of that prop, sounds real handy.
