i have seen in the last few months a tutorial detailing how you can use a black and white depth render from bryce and the same full render in photoshop to create an accurate depth of field effect. I cant find that tutorial anymore...Does any one know where it an be found? Thanks Steve (DORSET)

Bryce 5 has built in Depth Of Field rendering now, it works great! Here's a simple test I did using it, all 100% bryce rendered: http://www.phase2.net/claygraphics/Marbles.html

Very cool ... can't wait until my copy arrives. (I got it for a steal, BTW!) Can you set the focal point anywhere you want? i.e. foreground blurred, mid-way clear, background blurred?

You can control the lens radius and focal length numerically, or by selected object in your scene.

There are a lot of things worse than dying, being afraid all the time would be one.

Steve, Look for one here: http://www.ekholbrook.com/ Bryce chronciles says there is one here, but it was real slow when I tried it and I have a cable modem. So I left.

Yeah, that's the link given for "depth of field" at most of the Bryce tutorial link sites. BUT...I went through his site and could not find any tutorial(s) anymore, just some basic working tips. I think this is (obviously) where it was, but no more. Maybe it's buried within, but it is a slow site, and I too have a cable modem.

If you are still having trouble finding how to use a distance render in Bryce3D to create a realistic Depth of Field effect I think I can help. Its pretty easy to do. Just render your scene normally in Bryce, then make a new Distance render (keep the positioning and image size the same for both renders.) Open both files in Photoshop (or other 2d editing program) and add the distance render as a layer mask to the original image. You can then use the new mask to select the portions of the image you wish to blur (I recommend using a Gaussian Blur to best simulate DOF.) The only trick might be if you have many objects in your render that are far away or close to the camera. You may have to increase/decrease the brightness & contrast of the distance render to get amount of blurring you want. Ive done this with numerous images and was happy with the results. I hope this helps.
