Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 09 3:46 am)
If SM were smart, they would be focusing just as much on the figures as the program. Let's face it: the content is what makes the program useful and enjoyable, whether it comes with Poser or you have to buy it third-hand. I'm not as enthusiastic as you about Alyson and Ryan, but I will say that the figures that have preceded them were woefully underdeveloped. If anything, SM let DAZ run away with the market, and I'm not sure much of anything will ever turn that around, particularly at this point when the DAZ figures are so entrenched.

Given that OP was talking about figures that come with the program, what would there be to buy? They'd be free... in the sense that they would be part of the program.

Well, there aren't many, but a couple truly free figures come to mind, i.e. Maya Doll (tons of free support for this one), Apollo (not much in the way of support but a good figure) and soon Antonia (not ready for prime time yet, but when she is, she'll be awesome).
Antonia, to my understanding, is gonna be totally free and therefore won't really need to be licensed by anyone. She's more a labor of love for odf (her creator) and the others who are working on making her just as nice a figure as Vicky (we're trying anyway ;o)). She's truly turning into a genuine community project. Stay tuned.
And you're right about history not supporting good figures. Hopefully Antonia will be different once people start using her. I won't hold my breath on that one tho...lol. I just hope everyone will take to her and make some good stuff.

Well, I was just wondering if SM might not be interested in licensing Antonia as a figure to be distributed in Poser. SM would still need odf's permission.
Quote - I have to say that as far as recent Poser figures go, I think Alyson and Ryan are by far the best Poser has put out. That said, I do think there can be improvements made. but here's the thing.
No one really buys Poser for the figures, and most likely most people will simply switch over to using one or more of the DAZ figures instead if for no other reason than they are more supported.I'll be looking with interest to see what type of support both Alyson and the new Antonia figure by odf will be receiving. Only time will tell, but history doesn't look promising even if the figures do.
Do you think it would help if SM put a bit more money into developing a new figure, or maybe even licensing a current one like Antonia to be distributed with Poser?
I buy for the figures. It's nice to have fresh faces in storytelling art.
I think it would help if they made it easier for creators to package up textures and morphs to release characters. Maybe, if they included an inj builder utility or the like.
My feeling is that they don't want you to create stuff, they just want you to buy their stuff.
I wait to stand corrected.

They have it. As do DAZ, RDNA or whathaveyou. They can use it as is or modify it to their liking. All I require is that they give me credit. That's what the license terms say.
If they wanted me to do extra work for them, that's a different story. But they might have to wait until 2012 for that, anyway.

Isnt that true of all of the stores? SM, DAZ, RDNA, all of them just want you to buy their stuff. If you do anything beyond that point, well, that's up to you, but they definitely need you to purchase from them.

Which reminds me... I've been meaning to ask if you know if PhilC might be working on a WW2 file for Antonia? You know, until she gets some clothes of her own?

Can't really do that until she's finalized, and she's not ;o). Still beta.
