Hello,
I wonder if someone could show me where I could see some good Poser animations on the web.

Ah. Good luck on that one. "Realisitc" animation in Poser is still a ways off, I'm afraid, because of a combination of the clunkiness of the character meshes (Piece of trivia: V3 has twice the poly count of Jar-Jar Blinks) coupled with the... uhm.... "traditional scope" (to put it delicately) of how those are to be used. Having said that, there are some decent Poser animations out there, but they're few and very, very far between, which is a shame, given that the tools are all right there to be put to use.

I remember all the hoopla when the first truly polished piece of Poser animation was released, about six years ago. It was a five minute sequence that involved five robots in a white room, and it was very, very good. But anything using the MilFolk? It's just too much rendering work to make it practical for one-man animation houses, which is where the grand majority of Poser animation comes from.

Have you tried the Animation gallery here on Renderosity?

There is a range of length, realism and quality, but you'll certainly find some good stuff if you poke around.

This is so embarrassing, because I completely forgot about that, Tim.

Okay, run run run to that section and check out the work by Grafikdon. Amazing stuff.

I don't know if it's anything close to the stuff you might be looking for, but we try to keep a relatively steady stream of animation clips going up to YouTube. Most are test clips because before we release something I like to do at least some short test animations as means of giving the rigging a good thrashing. http://www.youtube.com/Sixus1Media

I have a few on my site and there will be more animations listed next week for the september/ october issue. You can find it here.

http://www.poserbydesign.com/poser%20movies.htm

The difficulty with realistic animations with poser or with any 3D animation is that without a motion capture system, the animation isn't going to have that realistic feel. The difficulty is that Poser isn't the Top of the line 3D animation software. Don't get me wrong it's a good program, but if it was a top of the line animation program then I wouldn't be able to afford it.

Check out Poser By Design in September to see some of the new animations that I found. Oh I'm always on the look out for good Poser Animations so if you know of any good ones please let me know.

Thanks

Just a thought: some of the best Poser animation I've seen wasnt necessarily "realistic" because true realism is almost impossible to achieve, even for the big time studios. No matter how hard they try, you can always tell CG work from the real thing... which isnt necessaily bad: I still think BEOWOLF was arguably one of the best pieces of CG work trying to make a human being from a technical POV that I've seen in a very long time. Human beings are so complex that it's nigh unto impossible IMHO to fully capture that, even with the best motion capture equipment and the finest models. That's why IMHO Poser works best with the more stylized models: the toons, the monsters, the robots. We're willing to be far more forgiving -- well, to a point -- because the level of expectation is different. Sure, we want them to look "real", but it's easier somehow to invest in making them real than it is when dealing with a mesh that already aspires to human real-ness.

Does that make sense? Probably not -- I'm still waking up. But just for a couple of examples, these are some pretty simple test animations that I'm doing for a much larger project:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPfNED6zlco
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9VdPAvf_VQ

In both cases, you're not talking about much: it's pretty  simple because it's just supposed to be testing out a few things. But it's the little details -- a grin here, an averted look there -- that gives it its own "reality" that, honestly, were you to use M4, would be almost impossible to duplicate. Here you're starting from a stylized origin. But with M4, you'd have to add on so many additional details, lttle quirky things that people just do, that you could get utterly lost in them... and you'd never fully capture them in the first place.

I dont know where this is going, so I'll stop now.

Hey folks.. just wanted to point this one out that just got sent to me on Youtube by a German user of my Kyuuketsu Henshi from over at Daz. This is an impressive piece. I don't speak German, so a lot of it is lost, but the video work and compositing are really nice, especially for the short timeframe it was apparently put together in! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs_ptbJsH4Q
