Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 18 5:11 pm)
Doesn't dpi stands for "dots per inch"? If that is the case you would multiply 300 by 12 so your render would be 3600 x 3600.
"It is good to see ourselves as
others see us. Try as we may, we are never
able to know ourselves fully as we
are, especially the evil side of us.
This we can do only if we are not
angry with our critics but will take in good
heart whatever they might have to
say." - Ghandi
That's a huge render. If your computer is choking, I would try rendering at 2000x2000 and using the enlargement tools in Photoshop to get you the rest of the way.

You can also try to render in 2 parts in fullsize, then put them together in an image editor.
Set a camera and block out half of the scene with a black wall infront of it.
Just a theoretical idea, not sure if the rendertime actually goes down with that, as maybe the non visible polygons also get calculated.
Make sure the black wall doesn't have a shadow or influence your scene in any way.
I would never advice you to render small and enlarge a lot, all your pixels get expanded and blurry, you will loose quality and your image can end up looking pixely.
So 3600x3600 is enough? Great. I can do a 4000x4000 render in 300 dpi with no problem (other than it takes time) - but larger than that and Firefly crashes when it's ALMOST done. Probably some sort of memory overrun or the like. But 4000x4000 is fine!

Biscuits, "expand a lot" needs a defining ratio. I have expanded renders x2 without any blurriness or pixelization. (More than that and you need a good plugin.)
But as TrekkieGrrrl can render @ 4000x4000, she'll be fine anyway.

Also, you might consider rendering everything out seperately as elements and the assembling them in your favorite paint program. With that, the paint program will determine the print resolution and you can have a mutli-layer PSD file that your client can work with and make adjustments before converting to CMYK.
take care
(300dpi/cm is totally not the same, lol)
Thank you so much for your freebie cave prop. It was perfect for what I needed.
many, many thanks.

Great! If my client won't believe me in regards to the size, I'll show him this thread :)
But I think he will.
It's a fairly simple thing I'm rendering. I wouldn't attempt a render this size with say a V4 L But for my model, it was possible in 4000x4000 (but 5000x5000 wouldn't finish properly. Oh well that wasnt' necessary either :) )

I have a commission that requires me to render something in Poser that should be printable on a page that is 30x30 cm (approximately 12x12 inches)
And I need to know how large I need to make the renders at 300 ppi/dpi
Thiing is.. I've tried several sizes by now, but my Poser keeps crashing Firefly when I'm almost done. So far, the largest I've successfully rendered was 2000x2000 pixels at 300dpi - and I was told it wasn't big enough.
So how large should it be to fit a 30x30 cm page?
There's no need to tell me the math with which I can do the calculation myself. My math is non existant. I can manage 2+2 and that's about it L
So please.. help!
