Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 25 12:38 pm)
I used the fbm node (my new favorite node.) and pushed the diffuse setting to 2.0.

My next step is to add the fbm node to a light to cast shadows on the cave.
Cave prop from your freebies. It's awesome.

i can't find the image to post, but I used the fbm on a light to make the Hatchling's wings shimmer when she moved. It came out pretty. fbm node rules!

Thanks for the tip :) And I'm glad you liked the cave ^_^
Hm.. I like your elemental but like Ajax's version it's more like ember than fire.
Oh well.. I'll have to use the texture map then I guess...

I once used it in an image of mine http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1572209 and think it makes up a pretty decent fire :-)
Hope this helps

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

TrekkieGrrrl, do you want the texture animated, like so? I have mats for P5+ which use the movie node.fire faerie: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v604/seachnasaigh/3D_faeries/Reiley_firewalk3.gif

Here's an example of bb's fire shader applied to Freak4 I posted at Youtube to show you. I just posed F4 at frame 1 of a 60 frame anim to show the animated fire. The Youtube treatment ruins it slightly.I've also attached a still render to show how it looks non animated.
Wow great balls of fire L
Actually it was for a product for sale, so I needed something that could start me in the right direction.
But in the end I settled for an old-fashioned texturemap because I couldn't make any of these look quite the way I h ad in mind.
Mind you that was before the last couple of posts here. I'll try him with the BB fire and see if he looks like I want him to. Your pic is most promising, Raven ^_^

*if* you could get a particle engine for poser, then fire becomes easy.the WETA technique was to apply actual fire clips to particles then script the particles as fire. you can see the result on the Balrog.
that's not outside our reach at all.... the link is for making this work in trueSpace, but explains it better than I can.
I think tho ........lost in thought
OK..
I'm not sure what to say about this. I like it... but there's something wrong and I cant' quite figure out what it is..
This is BB's fire with the P node changed slightly in the Y to get it a little higher :) (at least that's what I think it does?)
Somehow it looks more like a sort of caustics reflection than fire.. Or is it just me?

There's Particles 3 for Poser of at DAZ. It might do what you want. I have it but I haven't played with it very much.
Yeah. But I doubt they can be used for a sellable texture ;) Which was what I was after.
Still.. I tried I think the first version of Particles and I may have to check out the newer one just for the cool factor ^_^

Hey Trekkie,
When comparing the little guy you posted with the one by Raven, I'd say the biggest difference is the size of your little imp. He's sooooo skinny! So, maybe if you could somehow scale the flames down so that they were more apparent they would look like flames? Also, if you could slow the animation on the materials, it might help. I know fire is fast, but, that might be part of the problem. I'm not sure you'd see the flames going up so much as wiggling at the tips anyway. The smoke is what goes up;)
Thanks for the tips. I'll investigate the shader and see if I can figure out how to slow it down :) You're right, that may be what causes the "caustics" effect.
Heh and yea he's a skinny little runt, isn't he? :)
Actually, for now, the product is finished and live, but for next time I'd still like to know how to make more believable flames :)
hmm I wonder if I can MIX these flames with my texture map... That might actually work...

I have Ajax' free shaders, and there's a "Fire Elemental" included.
However, it doesn't quite look like I would like.
I can do fire with a picture of a flame + a transparency map, but if I wanted to make someone look like .. well.. a fire elemental, that isn't the best solution.
So has anyone made a believable fire shader for Poser? CAN it be done? I tried messing around with Ajax's version but it looks more like embers than real fire.
