will it work with poser 8?
PRPC dose not work in poser 8 as far as I can tell .

I am trying the above trial version and I can't get PRPC to work in P8 within that program or any others that use it, ie. P3DO. I hope it gets updated to work with P8. On the other hand, I also got Dimension3D's XL and I really like it and it works....still would be nice to have the PRPC updated to use with the other content manager programs out there to compare features. Each have their pros and cons.

You can find a updated version of PRPC that works with Poser 8 at P3DO website :)

Ah thank you. I did not notice this when I was on the page last night :)

I downloaded and installed p3doposerpack220.zip from the PD3O page with the latest PRPC file for Poser 8. Installed according to directions to P3DO and then copied the 2 poserpythonprpc files to Scriptsmenu under Pythonposerscripts under Poser 8. When I try to run either PoserPythonPrpc.py or PoserPythonPrpcEx.py I get the mesage "Cancelling Application Load: Application failed to initialize." I even gave permission for PD3O in the firewall settings. Are others getting this to work under P8?

senyac ( ) posted Sun, 06 September 2009 at 12:21 AM

Iam not sure , I dont use the PRPC script from within Poser 8 ,
With P3d0 I just double click the item I want to load into poser 8 and P3D0 runs its PRPC script and loads the item into poser :)
Not sure if the updated PRPC will work with other content managing programs or not ?

I cant test if from poser ATM because I have a IDL render going and it will be awhile before its finished :(

Shadow_Fyre ( ) posted Sun, 06 September 2009 at 12:39 AM

I get an error in PD3O saying it can't make a connection there either and in PzDB, it shows it's loading but nothing happens. The same PRPC files work in Poser 7 so something is either wrong with P8 or I am doing something wrong.

Hi Shadow_Fyre,
P3dO is not using Prpc anymore at least in P8.
Using Prpc is an option in P3dO, in Options dialog, Plugins tab uncheck "Use with Poser Remote Procedure Call daemon" and close any Prpc/PoserPythonPrpc script.

With this new version you don't have anything to set in Poser to open a file from P3dO, Poser has to be opened that's all.
You'll see it is much more convenient to use than with Prpc.

btw As you pointed out, you must have the lastest Poser plugins pack (available on my website) to use this with P8

Ah ha. Ok, I turned off work with prpc and now when I double click an item it loads into P8. Nice  I had used this in P6 and I loved working with Poser like this and then P7 came along and I never did try to get it to work by updating the files. I am glad to have it working again. Thanks. "Necessity is the mother of all inventions (or needs)"

You are welcome.
In case of problem with P3dO there's a support contact link in the About box. Don't hesitate to use it.

PzDB DOES work with Poser 8.

The pRPC script has a problem with Poser 8 only on XP.

My contact at Smith Micro has told me it will be fixed in Poser 8 SR1.
But we already have a patch you can use now. Just contact out Tech Support people
http://www.rocketshipsoftware.com/pzdb/support

Hope that helps
Ben

Thank you for that info RsS, I think that is the problem I am having, I am using P8 on XP. I am happy there is a fix. I am really liking this program, and seeing all your content across all libraries is real nice. Once I get the fix for prpc and can load content directly into Poser, the only thing I would be missing that is available with D3D'd XL, is the conforming tool. Very handy when you have multiple figures of an outfit that you can load and conform in a click. I like all 3 programs that I tried this weekend. I did purchase XL from D3D and it's great, I tried the newest P3DO Explorer and will probably upgrade to Pro and I will probably be getting PzDB since it's on sale. They all have there strong points and don't know which I like best, but together the P8 runtimes are much easier to handle and seeing a lot of my older content was fun too!

The patch is one file to copy. Works perfectly.

Better hurry: Sale ends tonight!
