Subject: Any books you can recommend for a would-be Blender user

 I'm considering giving up on Shade if I don't figure out how to model a humanoid character soon.
And by soon I mean in the next year or so.
I've seen some blender tutorials on youtube they make blender look so easy to use.
I'm not deluded enough to think 3D character modeling and animation is easy. I'm just trying to find a less frustrating way to achieve that.

Any book recommendations for a newbie to Blender. I saw some books and online and I want to know which books would be best for a beginner like me.

An excellent book to understand  Blender and a good introduction on character modeling is "Introducing Character Animation with Blender" by Tony Mullen.

Blender for Dummies and also The Essential Blender. Essential is based on an older version I think version 2.45 but it will be a great help anyway. Lots of good video tuts that are free on the net. Check out Blender Nation and the Blender Artists forum. That will get you started.

Anybody know if The Essential Blender book has had the binding problem fixed?
I bought 2 from Amazon and had to return both because of chunks of pages falling out of the binding. This was about 6 months ago.

 Thank you everyone for your input. I'll borrow these books from the Library until I find one that would suit my needs. Good thing Blender is free. I guess paying for the books won't break the piggy bank! 

:) Not to mention the video tutorials will clear things up too.

I'd also highly recommend the Cartoon Smart videos.  Everyone who has gone through them has said how it cleared things up for them and they are pretty cheap too.
