Subject: it was nice playing with poser 8 until I started to try and seriously use it

estherau ( ) posted Tue, 15 September 2009 at 4:25 AM · edited Thu, 23 January 2025 at 11:08 PM

I am a mac user, and the frequent texture error problems + library problems make this impossible without a fix, so I am back to poser pro and poser 7.
How long ago did poser 8 come out?  Quite awhile it seems when I can't actually use the program properly as yet and have to revert to an older one.

AFAIK SR1, which fixes the problems you mentioned and a lot more that you haven't, is due "sometime soon" - almost certainly this month.

I hope so.  It's been awhile since I parted with my cash for software I haven't used as yet.

I'm feel a bit bad now about being so impatient.  I am sure they are working on the sr1 as fast as they can.  I hope they reward our patience with a free poser rabbit or something though.  Maybe a huge discount on poser pro would ease the pain a little.

Oh, the Poser developement team is all adults. They know we are impatient because we love our Poser products so much.

Well estherau. i'm a mac users and not satisfied with Pose 8 so i got a refund and switched to another 3D program. I'm so glad i did.

Let's grant them the time they need to produce a worthwhile SR1 rather than a rushed product containing more problems and headaches.

Yeah the crashing on mac's, which is worse under Snow Leopard. The bloches.. I parked P8 2 weeks ago. Under Snow Leopard having lots of crashes with PoserPro. Using the down time to re-catalog my V4 runtime until SR1 comes out. I can wait as long as they addressed the multiple bugs I reported

You asked when did it first go on sale. August 3rd I believe. I made my purchase on August 4th.

What I have ants in my pants for is PoserPro2010, so I can render in background. I really miss that feature when rendering using IDL.

Does it seem quiet here?  Lot of the people posting to the various IDL threads have suddenly gone silent.

I can't and wont speak for the others.

I think much of the "quietness" is due to the Hinted At changes coming with regards to IDL and how it is different than the present release.

I too run on a Mac, have the same set of issues as most reported. My present work around has been to do all my setup in P7 and utilize P8 for the rendering only. Once the scene  file is set up and saved, I reopen in P8 without errors on Textures calls.

lack of posts?

well it's back school season for kids and colleges, it's early in the week, etc... I'd say more ppl having things to do rather than them being told off.

but hey. lets just assume they got told off.......

I almost asked for a refund at one point but I´ve managed to make P8 work for me. I have to use the right mouse button to switch between the pose room and any other rooms or P8 will crash. I haven't had any problems with textures or the library. The fact is that P8 starts up faster, renders way faster, calculates cloth faster, cancels out faster and most importantly crashes faster than PPro :) I really miss the render in background option but I can't go back to PPro after getting used to the new UI in P8.

I hope that SR1 will fix most of the problems people are having although I always say the best fix for MAC users is buying a good PC ;)

Perhaps some of us just don't want to sound like a broken record :)

We know that IDL and the library IS among the things being fixed in SR1, and we know they're working on it. So why bitch about it any more?

My Poser 8 works reasonably well. I'm eagerly waiting for SR1 to fix the minor problem sI DO have, but it's not like my P8 is unusable at all as it is. So I can wait until they're done with it.

Better a GOOD SR1 than a rushed one that will leave everybody screaming for SR2 the moment they've installed it.

Aye, but I hope it doesn't take too much longer... ;)

I am scared to buy Poser 8, because of the issues some people have reported with content compatibility.  Underscores and what-have-yous.

I wonder if the upcoming pro version will come out before I get comfy with the Cararra.

I am really appreciating how easy it is to move lights around in Poser(7).

It's nice that P7 will let you 'add' a light, instead of the only 'replace' option it used to have.  The plus sign in the library was staring me in the face for so long and went unnoticed until I read the Poser Revealed book.

I was one of those.
IDL testing (and my personal posts) had a purpose, and a lot of work went into this, and may I say, just wait. And try to keep your mouth from falling open when it comes out! !

Other matters need their attention now, and they are also quite serious.
SM is working hard, and harder. The interaction is nothing short of fenominal.

But: Win Xp, Vista, MAC,
A lot of people are running on Windows 7, also on a Release Canidate! !
So, there you have 2 new softwares, and with an eye to the future!
"better be prepared".

I keep on reporting.
The more correct and proven info they get, the better the final product will be.
Their "ticket system" is fast, and well proven by now.

josterD what 3d software do you use now?

that's a good idea bout setting up in poser 7 then rendering in poser 8.  I will try that for the moment I think.

Yes Itoo really miss background rendering.

Really? Hmm, I've always been able to add a light without replacing. I started with P4.

Yep, I'm with you on that.

Ironically, P8 runs slightly more stable on my vista laptop than p7 does.  I have max memory but I'm sure I could use a better graphics card, I have the vista user account thing turned off and I have most of all the bells and whistles turned off for running efficiently.   I still have problems with the library, (hopefully they will completely re-do that mistake) and the texture problem as well as any complex scene renders crashing.
Meanwhile P7 will freeze up any time I have to delete something and often when I try searching for a texture.  Forget rendering anything that isn't a single simple figure or prop.

Now on my desktop where I've never had problems with P7,P8 will hardly run at all.  No vista but it could use more memory.  Go figure.

I'm anxious to see if SR1 will fix things and I'm hoping that Smith Micro will still refund if it doesn't even if it's after the 30 days.
