Subject: Suggestions For Renderosity Site

TallPockets ( ) posted Fri, 03 July 2009 at 4:22 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 10:46 AM

**I would MOST kindly suggest the following for this WONDERFUL site:

(1) At Deviant Art, after a member has made someone a 'favorite artist', whenever said artist uploads a new work there, each Deviant Art member can SEE the FULL view THUMBNAILS of ALL said 'favorite artists' come up after signing into their account .... This makes it SO much easier and faster to browse and choose ....

** MANY folks have health issues/concerns and or time concerns these days **

It saves the time that members at Renderosity endure when they have to check their email list of all new uploaded 'favorite artists' works here one at a time by clicking onto, back and forth, between EACH new upload and NOT being able to SEE it at all, let alone in FULL as above in Deviant Art site. (Renderosity has the current Email/EBOT system type).

(2) Make ALL uploads FULL VIEW Thumbnails of ORIGINAL image .... I know this will UPSET SOME members here with 'creative' thumbnail crops, etc. .... But MOST of them, I find here, use them as a 'teaser' thumbnail to get one to take TIME to view their upload ....

I can't imagine going to my local art or photo gallery in my town and seeing 'cropped' thumbnail pics of EACH work hanging on the walls BEFORE I can NEXT decide IF I want to LIFT UP the 'veil' thumbnail cropped pic to SEE the FULL ORIGINAL work of Picasso, etc ....

But, MOST all other sites I visit, do the FULL thumbnail automatically ... FIRST, it allows STAFF at EACH site to SEE FULL but smaller views of the ENTIRE work .... That means STAFF can SAVE TIME greatly and NOT have to rely on FINDING works that MAY violate TOS or rely on members to 'tell' staff such ....

SECOND, it means that ALL members can SEE FULL, albeit SMALLER images of the ENTIRE work, and SAVE TIME ....

(3) NUDITY in galleries .... Personally, I'd like to see ANYTHING be able to be uploaded at this site .... Libertarian T.P. .... WINK ....  However, it IS RENDEROSITY's site to do as THEY wish ....

So .... In that vein .... Could EACH member's account be 'set' up, program wise, to NOT SHOW ANY uploads that HAVE NUDITY or WARNINGS so identified? .... (In another words, DEFAULT setting here would be NO NUDITY shown to members UNLESS THEY go to THEIR account here and CHANGE/ALLOW such).

That would HELP those who DETEST nudity, etc. from NOT having to SEE any such things ....

It would also, in my view, MAKE EACH member go to THEIR ACCOUNT here and MAKE THEM set the NUDITY OK box/check ....

Yes, it WOULD be ONE step EACH member would HAVE to do to SEE ALL nudity and warning uploads, but it would be a ONE TIME click ....

THANKS, in advance, for ANY/ALL suggestions, feedback and help from ALL staff and WONDERFUL members.

My BEST .... TallPockets

Q: Do MANY members ever see THIS area of the FORUM? .... I just stumbled by chance to it ....

(I would 'suggest' moving the SUGGESTION BOX  area of the FORUM/S to the TOP of the FORUMS LIST "PAGE" -- where MORE people SHOULD SEE it).

Would this also be appropriate to be PUT/MOVED to the COMMUNITY CENTER area of this Forum?

  1. I'll get this suggestion added to the list.

  2. This will not be happening since our thumbnail policy restricts full image thumbnails from being displayed where nudity is visible.

  3. Each members gallery is already set with the nudity filter turned on. Members have to go in and reset their options to view nudity on the site. I think I know what you are asking for however, that the images that are tagged as containing nudity just not show up at all am I right?..

  4. This forum is viewable to all members, and is already in the CC area of the site.

JUMP: HELLO & THANKS for your reply! .... MUCH appreciated .... THANKS for looking into Item #1 above .... Whenever you and the powers to be finish discussions, I would appreciate a final response .... THANKS, in advance .... T.P. ....

RE: Items 2 & 3 - Yeah, NUDITY in uploads kinda' messes up the whole system, doesn't it? .... SIGH .... I would THINK? with the WARNINGS for NUDITY, VIOLENCE and LANGUAGE, that a FULL thumbnail would NOT SHOW anything inappropriate unless one CLICKED on/OPENED each upload/thumbnail correct? ....

Maybe you could have a SEPARATE gallery for ADULT or NUDE uploads? ..... Make those who SO DESIRE to see such, SIGN IN to that gallery? .... I know that would be ONE extra STEP .... But it SEEMS? that MOST ALL I HEAR from want ADULT stuff to be viewed BY ADULTS and NOT KIDS, right? .... Well .... As the OLD saying goes then .... "Prove It" .... WINK ....

I understand WHY your nudity thumbnail policy was initiated ....I remember the HOOPLA from many members about NOT being able to show such in THUMBNAIL form ....

I see alot of YOUNG folks on this site and other sites I travel .... MANY are WELL under '18' years of age ..... Maybe IF you had a RESTRICTED AREA for NUDES and ADULT uploads of all types, that would HELP some? ....

I know this 'suggestion' forum is viewable to all members and IS in the COMMUNITY CENTER Forum area of this site ... My APOLOGIES for NOT conveying my thoughts better ....

I simply MEANT that I 'thought' it would be BETTER if it were AT or NEAR the TOP of the PAGE of LISTINGS .... Where MORE people would be MORE LIKELY to SEE It? ....

When I ran factories, I put the 'suggestion' boxes at the LUNCH tables .... Instead of peeps having to walk a ways to drop one off .... WINK ....

My BEST and THANKS again for your most valuable time and reply! .... TallPockets.

JUMP: HELLO. Please DISREGARD my above 'suggestion' about THUMBNAIL sizes, crops, etc. I have started a new thread in the Community Center just now directed toward all members here about this particular area/item.

I would, however, still like the staff here to look into the current EBOT/Emailing notification system regarding FAVORITE ARTISTS.

I've found that sites like DEVIANT ART are MUCH more efficient for it's members in such favorite artist notifications.

When one signs in at that particular site, ALL the FULL view thumbnails come into VIEW immediately and it is SO much more time saving than having to go BACK and FORTH for EACH ebot EMail ....

THANKS again, in advance, for any/all help. MUCH appreciated, as ALWAYS.

My BEST, TallPockets.

Ok about contests...I think they're great, but me being wonderfully smart and usually submitting my works after hours of lack of sleep, I tend to forget to compress my thumbs or they're two pixels too large or some weird thing like that.  So naturally, my contest  entries are entered sans requiered thumbnail.

My point:
Could there be some sort of "your thumbnail was improperly sized, so your entry was not submitted" instead of "your thumbnail was improperly sized, but your work was submitted anyway" type deal?

jeanne_50 ( ) posted Mon, 20 July 2009 at 4:46 AM

Another one about contests. :) I happened to enter the "Point to a fantastic place" contest. The first time I ever entered a contest here BTW and I loved doing this.
Now, after several times rendering, closing and opening the program (DS3) again and even once shutting down my computer and restarted it because something went wrong... I finally had something I liked enough to submit to this contest. I had set the renddersize to 1024x768 and every time it went well.. but the last time I rendered I had it render to the viewport instead of an extra window :( And... forgot to check in Photoshop the size of the picture. :(:(... so it was a few pixels too large. I got the message that it didn't fit in the contestrules so it wasn't right to participate in this contest. Instead of giving me the chance to enter again and this time with the right size... I couldn't enter at all! After all the fuzz I had , and due to the fact it was already way past midnight here in Holland... I certainly was disappointed about this.
I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I hope in the future there will be an opportunity to fix a mistake like this so it can send in again.
Well, I learned of course to watch more careful when I do something like this.  So anyway, thank you for this contest. It was fun to do.

Love, Jeanne

TP, Im not sure why you started a 'poll' type thread in the CC forum, but the thumbnails will not be changing in regard to full image thumbs as I pointed out to you and why.

@ musicaficta and jeanne_50:

If you are having issues with a contest image you have submitted, please email "contests@renderosity.com" and let them know so they can help you :)

Thanks!

DEAR JUMP: HELLO & THANKS for your reply/comments. MUCH appreciated. I did not start a 'poll' type thread in the CC Forum, KIND SOUL .... ~SIGH~ .... How did you arrive at that thought? ....

I was MERELY ''ASKING'' other fellow members to ''CONSIDER'' using FULL sized THUMBS to HELP others here on DIAL UP systems/slow systems, to HELP others here with TIME CONSTRAINTS and to HELP other members here who have HEALTH issues that LIMIT their TIME online ....

I have no idea how you, or anyone, could have mistaken what I said in the CC FORUM, KIND SOUL .... ? ....

My BEST to you and yours and THANKS for YOUR and STAFF consideration on HELPING other FELLOW members .... Even though, it won't be done ....

GOD bless .... TallPockets.

Hi TP,

The suggestions are gathered over a period of months and are brought up at our administrator meetings. If any suggestions that are made and we decide they will be incorporated into the site, we would then make an announcement.

Lots of things going on right now as we are gearing up for Renderosity's annual contests, etc. but we will get to the suggestions and discuss them as soon as we can.

Thanks!

The New Logo.

I gather that the new logo on the site is from the winner of the contest. I hope that a gradient can be added behind it as right now it feels really disconnected and frankly jarring.

Brent

Hiya Friends,

I am with Tallpockets about uploading nudity and keeping using a different method. To me, it's pornography. I am totally against nudity and pornography due to being an advocate for Children and Teens. There is so much of it out in cyperspace and in the world that it's hard to find modesty and Christian morals. Please, I'm not trying to cause a scene. Just wanting the best for the kids. :~)

Also, may I suggest that Christmas images not be so sexual in nature. Christmas is the time for families, joy, happiness and helping your fellow man. More than anything, it's Jesus Christ's birth. Jesus is the reason for the season.

I hope I'm not causing anyone grief and I know you are able to upload anything you want. This was just a suggestion. Thank you so much.

You rock!

shyliekee ( ) posted Fri, 30 October 2009 at 1:01 PM

** I also wanted to add that uploading Christmas renders that are posing provocatively wearing Santa Hats breaks my heart. I have three kids that are fighting to keep this nation free. And I know that some Soldiers will not be home for Christmas. I want to give them the message of hope and love from the whole world not bits and pieces. Again, just a thought. :)

Have a safe and Happy Holloween!

Thumbs...Not only do I have an image pulled for showing butt-cheek in the standard thumb, but another one yanked because my custom thumbnail had a parental advisory on it, made entirely in photoshop. So, to avoid any of these contraband thumbnails from insulting rendo admin further, is it possible to post a thumbnail image of a thumb, or will that get banned as well? Banned for thumbs, banned for no thumbs....man, I'm getting the impression I'm a baaaad bat.
