Subject: OT? IIRC's and IMHO's

Vestmann ( ) posted Mon, 21 September 2009 at 6:20 AM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 11:21 AM

Okay, English is not my native language although I can understand it pretty well and recently I've noticed the increased use of "abbreviations" (don't think that's the right word here).

I´m talking about things like IMHO. It took me a while to understand that it meant "in my humble opinion". Then there is IIRC which I have no idea what means. There are others I can't remember at the moment.  Is there a translation list of these things somewhere?  Could someone post a list if the these things they use the most?

I want to underline that I´m in no way annoyed by this. I just want to learn what these things mean so I don't have to guess in the blanks.

Ahhh! Thank you very much! It would have taken me quite a while to figure that one out.
People have been using that one quite a lot IIRC (see, it works! ;)

I generally use IMO, rather than IMHO, since my opinion is never humble. :) Simply put, there are two ways of doing things: The wrong way Sam's way :D

Acronyms!  That's the word I didn't know which made searching for it a difficult task. Thank you for the links.

Nother useful one for computer types is RTFM. :) One we used back in my tech support days was EMD = External Mouse Driver. Generally the cause of most computer problems.
