Actually, just use the Dolly Z and the ground plane will move further back. It will keep your shadows whole without (potentially) messing with a texture applied to the ground plane

Is there a way to expand the ground plane or a setting somewhere so that shadows will be rendered past the nasty, vile edge of the plane?
