You would be better off creating a new runtime (or several runtimes) to split your content. I would house related files together for convenience and ease to locate. Straightforward installs can be moved from runtime to runtime, only file associations related to older .pz2 generated files may have issues later.
The Collection tab, or Favorites in P8, will only establish links for popular items under one folder. It will no way transfer files to a new location nor will you lose items when you delete from such folders. Commonly used content from differerent runtimes will just be conveniently located in one area rather than switching and searching between runtimes.
great, that's exactly what I was asking, Thanks Hborre.
I'm not sure I understand the texture and geometry thing though. Would I need to hunt through those existing folders to find the relevant files to transfer to the new runtime. Say I copy some characters that have been setup in Runtime A to Runtime D. Would Runtime D need the Geometry and Texture files copied as well or would they read them from the original Runtime A?
I already have a few Runtimes but with this project in particular I'd like to move just the files I want to use. Would I need to move all the !V3, !M3 injection files as well or will they sit and get accessed quite happily remaining where they are?
To be on the safe side, transfer all relevant folders together to the new runtime. There will be internal script link references you would like to maintain. The !V3/!M3 Injection files can remain where they are for convenience. Many Poser users, like myself, will inject all the morphs into the model and then save that character in a separate runtime folder. The process is performed once. I also have a projects runtime where only one-time use content is temporarily stored.

I'm not in front of Poser right now so my terminology might not be correct but what would be the best/fastest/optimal way to set up a collection of poser figures/props/lights/poses?
I know there is an option to add to collection or favourites or something... Can't remember what the option is off the top of my head. but I've never used it. I'm now getting to the point where my main used Runtime is absolutely HUGE and I'd like to streamline it a bit with only the things I need for a particular project.
What is the best way to go? Should I create a brand new runtime or use the "collection" (or whatever it's called option) This ultimate set will probably have different textures in some places than are currently sitting in my bloated runtime. Does that matter or is the "collection" an exact duplicate of the item that is currently sitting in my existing runtime?
If I was to make a whole new runtime, would I need to copy the textures and geometry files or would poser automatically read them from the runtime they are sitting in now?
Not sure how well I explained that LOL, hopefully someone will get the jist of what I hope to accomplish.
Cheers.
