THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: October - Bryce challenge.

dhama ( ) posted Mon, 05 October 2009 at 4:45 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 8:21 AM

Firstly I have to say I was impressed by the quality of the entries as I know for some that this particular topic can cause some people headaches. Thankyou Orbital for choosing the subject that maybe I excel at most in Bryce.

So to Octobers challenge:

I've always argued in the past that the Bryce challenge should be just that, but please don't fret. I believe Bryce to be a very capable creative tool and so the next challenge should be focused on just that.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to produce a piece of art that utilizes anything that Bryce can offer. The topic can be whatever you feel you excel at using Bryce, so the object of this challenge is to produce something in YOUR style.

So anyway, heres the crunch. Only Bryce can be used. Everything produced in the artwork/scene should be already present in Bryce......e.g. construction of objects, trees, lighting.
Absolutly no postwork is allowed this time round, it'll will be nice to see the possibilities of Bryce.... so the render should be the final stage.

So here is what you CAN add......
You can make your own MATs with graphic or photgraphs, *but absolutly no photgraphic objects, e.g. on 2D plane.
*Your signature if you so desire.

To recap, Make something or create a scene using ONLY Bryce.

I realise that importing is part of Bryce, but this time, no importing except for the creation of new textures.

Personally I think there is a lot of talent that can achieve this right here. Let's prove once and for all that Bryce can also be a standalone tool and sole creator of fine artwork.

Get to it people..... 👍

Any question, ask them here, until TheBryster has a chance to create an official thread.

Excellent idea! I might enter this myself. I've just been given a commission that will require no imports and coincidently, I have to finish it by the end of the month.
Of course, if I do enter and don't win I'll have to give the whole forum a session in the comfy chair, but don't let that worry you......too much.

I'll get the pages up asap.

HMM I might get in on this one.

Can we use Photoshop to create templates for lattices? The brushes in Bryce leave a little to be desired when it comes to clean edges on circles etc.

As said,' .....except for the creation of new textures.' So yes, this would include textures for lattices.

Once in a while I look around,

Tinkling light sound

I love it. Count me in. Great challenge! My head is already bubbling with ideas.
Thanks Dhama.
You were the clear winner last month. Congratulations.

I was referring to the use of Photoshop to create the shape template for a lattice, which technically isn't a texture, but the source of the shape itself. While this can be done in the terrain editor,it is very difficult to create a complicated shape.Just want to make sure this doesn't break the terms and disqualifies my entry.

Well I would say it was still a texture, even if it is used to create a lattice. So yes, perfectly acceptable.
