THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Dhama has thrown down the gauntlet with this challenge for the month of October.

Bryce Only
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to produce a piece of art that utilizes anything that Bryce can offer. The topic can be whatever you feel you excel at using Bryce, so the object of this challenge is to produce something in YOUR style.

So anyway, heres the crunch. Only Bryce can be used. Everything produced in the artwork/scene should be already present in Bryce......e.g. construction of objects, trees, lighting.
Absolutly no postwork is allowed this time round, it'll will be nice to see the possibilities of Bryce.... so the render should be the final stage.

So here is what you CAN add......
You can make your own MATs with graphic or photgraphs, *but absolutly no photgraphic objects, e.g. on 2D plane.
*Your signature if you so desire.

To recap, Make something or create a scene using ONLY Bryce.

I realise that importing is part of Bryce, but this time, no importing except for the creation of new textures.

Personally I think there is a lot of talent that can achieve this right here. Let's prove once and for all that Bryce can also be a standalone tool and sole creator of fine artwork.

Get to it people.....

All genres are encouraged.

**The Deadline will be 12 MIDNIGHT ROSITY TIME October 31th 2009

Contestants are permitted only one (1) entry.**

**WARNING!!!!!  Anyone posting finished renders in the galleries before the end of voting will be disqualified from this challenge.
WIPS are fine as long as they are only posted in this thread.

The rules page can be viewed here:

Q; Thought I might enter, but I'm getting to know the built-in HDRI features and the image I'm working on depend on using it with "as background" setting on. The HDRI image is "Cherry Blossom" which is included in th Bryce6 package. Will this break the rules? It is all Bryce including primitives, boolean and terrain.

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

My 'maybe' entry. This is why I've been a bit slow around the Rend lately. This is a commission for our local church. This area is cluttered with unused pews and junk atm. They are going to remodel and asked me to create an artist's impression of what it could look like after they rip out the old pews and get new furniture in. This is still a wip and still needs a second (15th century) font installed to the right of this pic. The stained glass windows are 2d objects with photos of the real stained glass panels added. Oh and I have no idea why the bigger pic is so damn blurry.

(Edit) I've just realised that this pic won't quailfy because of the stainded-glass windows. Jeez!

could you not just use the glass in the real windows as a material for glass in a Bryce constructed window frame?

I suppose I could, but I'd lose the cool reflections on the wall. I'd like to have to 'god rays' there as well but I don't remember how to do those.

rj001 ( ) posted Tue, 20 October 2009 at 7:43 AM

When i used god rays i used a cone with modified clud texture, it can be done with 'volumetric world' but the render times can be horrendous, and if you make the matrial a glass it should make reflections but still have the originla image as a colour gel.

rj001 ( ) posted Thu, 22 October 2009 at 1:22 PM

bryce has a volumetric cloud i use, which shouldnt show shpere lines, and you can change the fuzzy factor for density, i find its better than the steam cloud preset. it looks lika dark ball of belly button fluff in the materials library, but renders as you see in m y image

So your saying this just a popularity contest rather than a test of skills?  Entry A is a single sphere over water and has a 1000 friends here.... and Entry B is the most breath taking piece of work anybody has ever seen but has only 1 friend....Entry A wins?   You can have it.

And what support are you referring to?  I never got any "support" when i started here. Couldnt even get a answer to a question. I was told to do and learn it myself.  No problem.

Again, ask santa for a sense of humor.

vncnt9663 ( ) posted Fri, 23 October 2009 at 1:35 PM

Nice. I guess that's why your gallery is empty. As this thread shows, you can ask a question and have it answered.

Dude, lighten up.

Rj, Thank for your input on the steam. I turned it into dust instead. That was going to be the reason for this post. That is until I read the remarks above. Not wanting to make enemies here. But I always say put up or shut up.

Azrealll,

I look forward to seeing your challenge entry.

God Rays?  There is no better God rays than the one's invented by Frozencry all those years ago at Bryce5.com. Here is a link to the original formula for God rays in Bryce:

I used this in my most recent render link below:

Does this include a graphic I make and add to a 2D plane for say a ground blast?
