Hi all,
Just wanted to let you know that Poser was not able to handle the amount of materials and objects in the Fishers Warehousing project.
Kind regards, Tom

Is it still available for Vue, I know my rig could handle it.

Injustice will be avenged.

Do you have access to Zbrush or know someone who does? there is a plugin for it called Decimation Master that can reduce the size of obj files without compromising the detail, just a thought. ;)

That's what gripes me about Poser. So many other 3d programs can handle it but not Poser and they seem not interested in fixing it.

I had a very large scene which crashed poser 8 and was sluggish +++ in psoer 7 and poser pro and it works quite well in DAZ studio.

That is unfortunate. You could still release it as an obj product. Then the end user could load what they needed...just a thought. I may need to seriously look at Vue, now, lol.

Hi All,
Sorry it has taken me so long to respond but I have been mulling over in my head, what to do about this situation. If I create all the buildings separately  then when someone thinks they can load them all in Poser, and it crashes then I am the bad guy. This model was designed to be an entire city block. If I leave out some of it, then it will seem incomplete. I suppose I could remove the 24 different weed types with their respective transparency maps as well as reducing the amount of maps in general. As an example the concrete walls have ten different maps to give a natural variation in texture. That same thinking is woven through out the entire project. If i remember correctly there were 268 maps with 285 materials. That is what Poser is having a heart attack from.
After spending the better part of 6 weeks working on this model it was non the less a huge let down  to me as well. Oh if only Poser would hire some good programmers to bulk up the software. But I am expecting way too much I think, as I am used to working in multi dollar programs such as Maya, 3D Studio max and Cinema 4D.
I am open to suggestions as to what to do as well as what you think I could loose in the model to reduce the load on Poser. My first thought is to remove the weeds. That in itself might be enough to make the difference. I spent who knows how long placing thousands of them individually. I suppose I could make a set of plant to sell as a separate product so if you wanted to go that route then so be it.
As far as poly gon reduction software it always tears the UVW maps and I would have to start from scratch on that as well.
Have to say I am at a loss as to what I should do.
Well enough rambling for now.
Kind regards, Tom

After I hit post it occurred to me that I could assign just one map to all of the weeds which would be better than having no weeds at all. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
We shall see, what we shall see.

Still would love to hear your ideas.

I would buy it and try it, and I promise not to get too mad if the scene is too heavy for poser or daz studio etc.

PS I also own C4D

The options available would depend on what size maps you are using. Models made in 3dsmax tend to use 512x512 sized maps. I'm not saying that is what you used, but since I am guessing here, I will err on the side of caution and use 1024x1024 as the example size. Let's take the concrete, for instance...

Your readme states that you have 40 concrete textures in use with this product. I don't know how many different geometries you are using, it looks like it is right around the 400 range, that are using the 40 different maps. You may be using more, like I said, I don't know. (Do those 400 geometries each have their own materials?) If so, you'd be able to cut that down a great deal. Poser can handle maps of 4096x4096 and you can fit 16 1024x1024 maps inside of a 4096x4096 space. So with some remapping you could drop the texture reference and/or materials used. You could get it down to as low as 3 for your concrete items alone, without losing any variety.

I love the attention to detail and this set looks huge. However, because of the size, I doubt there would be any real need for that much variety. The camera can only capture so much at one time. I really believe that you could trim the material/texture references down to the 25-35 range without affecting the quality of the product. It would take some work, certainly. And all guesstimates are based on the common map sizes =)

Just my $.02...Thanks for listening, lol.

Hi Guys,
After I finish my current project I am going to take all of your suggestions and give it another try.
Seems like a terrible waste not to. Thanks for all your input and rest assured I am going to try everything I can to get it resolved even if I have to remove some items to do so.
My first area will to work on will be the textures. I know I can reduce those quite a bit with out making this product look cheesy.
Kind regards, Tom
