Subject: my poser 8 takes a long time to go from render window to the posing window...

Just like previous versions of poser.  What is it doing all that time - reloading textures?  Shouldn't it know what textures it's previously loaded and hold onto them or something (says me who isn't a programer but gets very tired of spinning beachballs)

If it's any consolation, ti's the same on a PC. Most annoying, but as you say it's nothing new so I more or less stopped thinking about it :)

It would be nice if it was faster, and as you say.. WHAT exactly is it doing in that time?

Actually the ongoing sluggishness of the Material Room bothers me more.. I used Poser 7 the other day because Poser 8 kept crashing the second I plugged a displacement map into a figure (a reboot solved the problem) and wow.. a Material Room that actually REACTED to what you was doing.

Don't get me wrong, I love Poser 8, but I'm not sure if SR1 hasn't broken as much as it has repaired. I've had more crashes after SR1 than before...

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

I also do like using poser 8 - just for simple stuff.  But for complex scenes I am using either older poser versions but am also starting to play with daz studio which doesn't crash as much.

It really shouldn't keep the preview-sized textures in memory, as you'll want all memory available for rendering, so reloading (and resizing) makes sense.

estherau ( ) posted Mon, 12 October 2009 at 6:11 AM

couldn't it just store them somewhere safe or something instead of reloading them?  That spinning beachball drives me nuts!

I just got me Poser 8 Saturday last and been setting up most of my rooms (closing what is not necessary for that room).  Yep, I still get the where- the- heck-did -you- put- that- texture.  So I'm thinking about taking a copy of all my textures and slapping them all in Desktop>Public>Public Documents>Poser 8 Content>Runtime>Textures>Poser 8>My personnel stuff to see if I can get rid of that little olde spinning wheel.

Now why the Desktop>Public etc stuff; well when I installed olde Poser 8, it automatically generated a runtime there.  Now I have two of them, an empty one where the .exe file is located and this one.  So, Poser is telling me something-how about loading all your textures to the Desktop one, so I will comply and see if it works.  One other thing, that blank runtime, Poser folks plopped it there for a reason so I'm going to leave it blank.  In Poser 5, I deleted the empty runtime-big mistake, Poser failed to open PERIOD end of statement.  -will let folks know if it cures that problem----Jan

Especially with more complex compositions I've found that if just before I render I switch the preview mode to Mesh or Outline, for example, that Poser8 switches back from the Render window to the Preview window quite quickly... though I will say even in the Full Texture view ( or whatever its called) I haven't had as much of a wait as you are reporting.

might be because my scene has got so many textures in it.

This problem pops up now and then with Poser7 people as well.
It's an openGL problem and can be solved by switching to a sree preview or a wireframe or even a Smooth Lined Document display style.

If you want Poser to behave properly then get a dedicated Opengl video card, NOT a games card.
Games cards are horrible for proper 3D work but just about everyone seems to use them and this problem is always coming up for them.
Save up for anOpengl card and you'll be very, very pleasantly surprised  :)
