how about some usable screen sizes? nice to have the vids but either thumbnail size or full screen cant see whats being clicked, isn't as usefull as it could be, unless i have missed something (possible).

 Einzy.

JenX ( ) posted Fri, 04 September 2009 at 4:26 PM

I'm not sure I understand what you mean, Einzelganger.   The thumbnail image is what you click on to get to the video, and it is accompanied by a title, which should be descriptive.  The video size usually depends on the video, but full-screen is available on the videos.  What is the concern, again?

it was a smidge of sarcasm :P the video itself isn't much larger than a thumbnail, and full screen isn't much help when you need to see where someone clicks in a program.
something like some media players have- original/x2/x4/or full screen would be a great help.

Which videos are you having this problem with?  I have a 25-inch widescreen, and the new ones at the top by gtoon are taking up a good 45% of my screen real estate.

The new 3D-coat tutes by Fugazi1968, too small to see whats being clicked/done, and full screen too blocky to see whats being clicked/done (on 24" widescreen).

JenX ( ) posted Sat, 05 September 2009 at 2:06 PM

That has to do with that particular tutorial and the size it was uploaded at.  why don't you give him the feedback that it's hard for you to see the tutorial?

fair enough, i wasn't saying it was a problem your end, it would just be nice to have the option to zoom the vids a bit.

JenX ( ) posted Sat, 05 September 2009 at 3:15 PM

True, but, if a lo-rez video is uploaded, zooming in won't help you at all.

Speaking of videos.. WHY do you only accept those annoying Flash videos? I do not (at least not that I know of) have anything that can make me a flv from a wmv - except uploading it to Youtube and use my Firefox plugin thingie to download the finished .flv - quite a workaround.

Am I missing something obvious? Is there a really easy way to create .flv that I just don't know of? (short of buying Shockwave or whatever it's called)

You should be able to upload a .wmv file, hon.  Is it 640x480 and under 100MB?  If it is, and you're still having problems, a quick email to admin@renderosity.com might help out.  They'll have the programmers right on it ;)

My mistake, I had the wrong link up there.
(FWIW, I shared my confusion as to why just .flv's are supported...hopefully, I'll hear why)

You might be able to transcode with either VirtualDub or VLC.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Tue, 20 October 2009 at 7:36 PM

nruddock, I have both and VLC seemed to be able to do it - only nothing happened when I selected save as.. and chose flv.
I haven't tried with VirtualDub though. That might be able to do it.

Still, it's not really practical that you can't upload a standard Windows video. I admit I'm not sure if Mac/Linux users can see wmv, but I would assume so. And Windows MovieMaker is included in both XP and Vista and is actually a nice program for making animations, so it's a shame it can't be used as is. Plus... Most videos are not exactly enhanced by being transformed into a .flv - quite the opposite...

FLV files save bandwidth. They are becoming the standard for video sites. If a site allows an FLV file upload, the quality is usually much better than depending on a system to automatically convert from a different format to FLV... e.g. what you often end up with on YouTube.

I use On2 Technologies Flix Standard.
