Subject: October Forum Challenge....."Take the Frame off the Wall"

bclaytonphoto ( ) posted Tue, 29 September 2009 at 8:51 AM · edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 9:59 PM

I'll be totally honest here, this isn't an original idea, but I thought we could have some fun with this.

Kort pointed me to a story on Photojojo

http://photojojo.com/content/photo-projects/use-a-photo-frame-to-frame-shots/

I'm sure most of us have an old frame sitting around in the attic or basement..

Maybe you can find one really cheap at a yard sale or a second hand shop..

Be creative,,try different things..

Check out this slide show of examples

http://framingnewyork.com/

Here's an example

Or if you choose, you can try your hand at "Natural Framing"

*Just a reminder, please limit you uploads to three per member. It is prefered that you shoot for the challenge rather than use one from your archive. Also, please keep your images to 800 pixels or less and under 200KB. The forum doesn't like images larger than that. (unless you want to host it off site.)

Cool slideshow! I liked the way it went from B&W to color, it gives you a different perspective on how those shots would look.

Cool idea and can be loads of fun! Well done Bruce and Kort for the idea!
I'm going 'shooting' lions again tomorrow so I'll be sure to take an old frame with and play a bit!

What a great idea!  I'll be on the lookout for opportunities.

I like the mirror idea!

this is natural framing with the coloring idea of the first example.
it's a gate from inside a cemetery looking out.

Here I did a photo manip to insert my current avatar image into another photo. The foreground is a photo I snapped of the movie room in Taliesin West, home of Frank Lloyd Wright.

This past weekend I took some pics at the Johannesburg Country Club and shot this one specifically for the forum. :))

Well, in the interest of having more to show you, I admit ... I've dug into my archives for this one.

When I went on a horseback ride with friends this summer, there was a pony who had apparently chewed himself a window in the side of one of the barns.  He would disappear, and a minute later he's stick his head through the hole and look around at everyone.

So don't go thinking this is a stuffed horse's head mounted on a wall.  It's a LIVING horse ...

... self framed!

St. Mary's Chapel, Whitby, North Yorkshire, shot from accross the bay whilst walking through an access tunnel that goes through the cliff-tops. Ive also treated this to a little HDR and split toning (like mono tone but using two colours - one for the dark areas and one for the light areas which meet in the middle as a mix of both)

Hope you enjoy

This was taken at the arboretum in Seattle.  Looking through a carved stone at the Japanese Gardens.

I really like the perspective in Bruce's last upload and the silhouetted person adds extra interest - just as the coins do in Tara's last upload and I love the array of greenery in that shot! Both are superb, remarkably different and a pleasure to view! Very well seen and captured!

Well, I've got a few more days to try and snag a shot or two for this challenge. The flu got hold of me and I've not really been in a snapping mood. Although I am bored to tears.

Have enjoyed seeing what y'all have come up with though, it has helped aleviate my funk.

Hello! where are you???

Only a couple days left of this and I see things are dragging a bit...

I have been looking for something original all month and very little presents itself. Usually when I do see a  nice framing, I'm on company time and without my camera. Still, I was hoping to pop in and get some inspiration.

I love the horse, Tara. That's great!

Art, exceptional work on that one.

In fact, I could sit here and tell each of you how wonderful your example is, but ya know? Since they are all simply stellar, let me just say...

These are all simply STELLAR! :-) Some interesting ideas for me ...

Now, I need to see if I can find something to add to this myself...
