Subject: October/November Challenge - TRI-COLOR PUN CHALLENGE

tresamie ( ) posted Mon, 19 October 2009 at 8:12 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 6:05 PM

Ohhhhh, this is gonna be fun!  Here is an exchange between Thunderstone and me:

I think I know what the next challenge should be...
It will be a 3 in 1 type of challenge.
The first part would be to define a 3 color set (palette)
The 2nd part would be to create a scene using the 3 colors set
The third part would be to create the said scene as a play on word (pun)

I guess you could call it a Tri-Color Pun Challenge. They could enter as many as they want.. Writers could write up a theme using at least 3 colorful descriptions in a "punny" manner. Others could create a scene in their favorite arty software and camera.

This sounds intriguing!  Off the top of my head, I came up with 'red, white and BOO'.  Is that what you had in mind.  I am kind of picturing a Halloween trick or treat scene with all the kids dressed in red, white and/or blue, and the blue one being the scary one.  OK, maybe that's a little feeble, but it's a beginning, lol.

You've got it! That is what I was talking about... But it doesn't have to be limited to just Halloween, it can be anything or any season but it must be 3 colors and a play on words.

The Challenge starts now and will go on until the middle of November.  I will give you a few days warning.   Post your works in this thread under this post.  Ask questions here as well.

You may enter an existing work if you like, but we would prefer to see a new work created for this challenge... it IS a challenge after all, lol!  You may enter more than one work, but remember that in the voting, each entry will be judged separately, so it would be wonderful if you could name each of your entries.

OK, now go... and CREATE!!!

can someone provide me with a visual example, please?
i have difficulties with the pun! parts to visualize.
not sure how to " pun" in a strange language. ( sorry)
monica

ThunderStone ( ) posted Sun, 25 October 2009 at 9:31 AM

Monica, you have puns in your native language? Use that as a starting point... Like in American English,  the colors: red, white and blue... only in they sometimes pronounced "blue" like the word "BOO"!

Or you could create a scene showing cartoon children playing on words... (Pun is defined as "playing on words") Whatever language you speak, there are always some form of pun that can be given a visual form.

@koosievantutte That was very very astute... Most people have a form of dyslexia that transposes the d's and p's. Very well done... And yes, that is what I am talking about.
I'm working on an entry. Hope to have it done before the end of the challenge.

a good addition to the challenge, thunderstone.

my second one is "strong water" - a rather absurd interpretation of the expression. 😄
i know it is, strictly spoken, not a pun, but i think it qualifies.

@koosievantutte

That's a good one...

@All
Yes it can be either written or spoken pun in any language. Doesn't have to be English but a visual representation of the pun regardless of your native tongue. Now that's a image one can put together...

helanker ( ) posted Wed, 04 November 2009 at 9:15 AM

That one i know already Koosie :-)))  And I was really laughing when i saw you put the p instead of the b. But I was not at really understanding what is is ALL about.

So you find a famous phrase and twist the words and make a 3 colored image to fit the words?
Or what?

My language sometimes play tricks on me and i cant see the deeper meaning even i so want to.

koosievantutte ( ) posted Wed, 04 November 2009 at 9:21 AM

yes, you think up a wordplay and make an image out of it.
look at my 'strong water' - that means spirit/alcohol, but i made it look like it was so strong it could lift 1 kg.

Is this challenge official dead??? I mean, come on, now people! There got to be a posting or two that might have struck your fancy...

I knew I made it too hard for you all... Sorry about that. Hard to come up with something that everybody would get a kick out of. Boy, the weather out here in NY has been raining cats and dogs... Hope those in the US had a bang of a great Turkey day... I'm going to end this now and go crawl back into my hole under the rock beneath the stairs. You'll find me having a few pipe dreams and eating crows.

Is it over yet?

Thanks!
