Subject: Use my tools

Dave-So ( ) posted Sat, 14 November 2009 at 9:39 AM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 10:42 AM

you know, over the years, I've purchased a ton of items that either build or help modify characters, cloths, hair, and so forth.
99% have not even been used and I continue to pour over Poser stores, including this one, for items of clothing, hair products, etc.

WOW..wouldn;t it be great to actually use Phil's hair product, or clothing designer...or learn to model with my copies of Truespace, hexagon, silo, carrara, and a couple of others?
what's my problem?

But I do like what i see at the stores and its a whole lot easier ..

It's called "retail therapy"? Imelda Marcos had closets for her shoes, we have bloated runtimes.

When you buy someone's product, you are buying their style. Each person has a unique style unlike others, and I don't think there is anything wrong with getting a product because you value that vendors creative style.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

In the musical instrument world, we call this G.A.S. - Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

There's nothing wrong with perusing the Marketplace, especially if you need something specific (DAZ's the Village, a courthouse and a haunted house here are on my wishlists).

Creating your idea content is time consuming but sometimes you need something "just so". The more I model, the easier it gets. The unfortunate side effect is that every real world object I see is analyzed down to base primitives, curves and extrusions. It's maddening.

Yeah I agree. I got lots of PhilC stuff, but I am either too lazy or dense to learn it..lol

And the 3D gods know he tried every way possible to drill the "how to" of it in to my head.

So I too end up back here looking for somebody else to sell me the quicky fix for whatever I need 😉

Why does this forum text box has features that never work?

A few months ago I needed a very specific pair of V4 boots for a project, so I made 'em myself; took me a good 25-30 hours. The day I sent the job out Pretty 3D released an outfit that included the exact same boots for $12. Yeah...

That resonant booming sound? that'd be my head and the desk meeting in another attempt to get to grips with the latest bit of kit I've bought to help with Poser.

@__@  Wow, and sort of sad.  Almost everything I've downloaded, I've used somewhere.  Everything I bought I have DEFINITELY used in some render!  I have a big runtime, but I've rendered almost a thousand renders, and used my tools like I might die tomorrow.

Of course, my muse must be overly caffienated or something.
