The "Soft Black" leather from that script is pretty good, but a bit too shiny.

I toned it down a bit here. Is this the look you're after?

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Yes thats perfect. I tried to download the attached file, but its a .txt file, is that what i put into my scripts folder?

bagginsbill ( ) posted Fri, 30 October 2009 at 1:12 PM

No - not your scripts folder. It's a matmatic script, which is a special kind of Python script - not ordinary Python. You can't just run it. You have to let matmatic run it.

There are lots of threads about matmatic - Acadia and others have written about how to use it. But as I said, the script produces a material with too much shine.

I'll build the shader for you and upload it, when I have some time. You can just use the Poser material file then and not bother with matmatic or editing the script.

There were some leather and latex materials in freestuff at RDNA(www.runtimedna.com) that make a good base material.

I had a read of that Leather script, Bill, and am more determined than ever to get my head around the behaviour of nodes. You know, so you could invoke that intimate understanding of nodes and which ones to use to create this "recipe".

I might start with Bias and Gain again (following your examples in the Nodes for Dummies thread). For it to stick, though, I'll need to use it in a sentence. Hmmm, Bias and Gain... you displayed the differences by tying it to an image file (and then to what, the AltDiffuse channel?)... I might try that.

This is too much a part of what I do in Poser these days to not fully understand.

Hi. Sorry I took so long. Been kind of busy on several projects. I wanted to do the leather over again, because I've learned a lot since the last time.

Here is the new soft black leather material. It is a Poser material file (MT5). Save it and be sure to remove the .TXT extension from it.

This is a gamma-correcting shader. If you're using Poser Pro render GC, I'll need to change it.
