So I downloaded Pioneer just to see if Vue 8 was all cracked up to the claims.

Even a simple preview scene took 20 minutes to render.

Old Pentium 4 3 ghz 2 MB of Ram and yes Windows XP 32bit.

Any Input?

they actually have a minimum requirement listing... and a big one is more the video cards than your processor.  I also wont be able to run Vue 8 comfortably on this machine (dual core, 8gig memory, 3 or 4ghz, and win xp 64 pro)... due to my video cards being sooooo old.

but, take into account - each generation of a product that has massive improvements is going to also come with increased power/memory/etc usage.

but it does sound as if yours wont be able to run it easily =(

Looks like I am doomed to stay with VUE 6 or spend money which I dont have oh well it was fun once, guess I will just lok at the gallery and drool

Global warming may not be man made, but simple science says if you take a whole bunch of stuff out of the earth and the distribute the stuff in the atomosphere, chemistry will happen and therefore change will happen. We are a part of Global Climate Change(now to called GCC), duh.

That's a better system that what I use and Vue 8 Infinite runs great on it.

Well I updated the graphic card, and I am seeing some improvement. Good sign, next week I will be give a 2.6 Dual core, lucky enough the MB supports it

it's been proven that Volcanoes do not put out as much CO2 as we do, you all do know that? so quit bringing that up for goodness sake, ugh. You want I'll go get the facts for ya.
Now, that is volcanic activity we know about, so there's always that caveat.

And with CO2, the issue isn't so much chemistry, as physics (it's a greenhouse gas, it's not a chemical reaction that causes this issue).
If ANY numbskull DARES say "oh but CO2 isn't a greenhouse gas", I will then ask them WTH they got their education: Sesame Street? :P 
Simple experimentation can show you that it is indeed a greenhouse gas.

And Co2 is NOT "life!" as some imbeciles would have it...the Earth would be at -20C average temperature without CO2, Methane and Water Vapour, so yes, it keeps us "alive"
But Venus is baked to 480 celsius by the same chemical!
So, as Galen said, what is beneficial, or lethal is merely a matter of amount.

Another simple experiment can also show that ice does not melt at a nice linear rate, like the numbskulls have been showing for ages.
Yet another simple experiment and basic science shows why (surface area to volume ratio..ice breaks apart, gets fissuerd etc as it melts) I knew that 20+ years ago, but did folk wanna listen? nope...
So, "Pulses" as ice ages end, or vast ice dams broke = very rapid rises that have been shown.

Been debating this stuff for years with thickheads who simply won't accept man made climate change could happen just so they can live their indulgent dumb *** lives at everyone's expense....which is a different outlook to genuine scepticism based on REAL evidence.

The evidence is very heavily in the favour of "man made" climate change at the moment.
All usual caveats apply as in any scientific arguement..but this is very rarely about science.
Please note what this arguement REALLY means:

it's either a colossal waste of money and many scientists are talking out thier backsides

or
World War3, and I really DO mean Doomsday. a few degrees warming is all it takes to cause vast famines and dorughts, because we rely so heavily on cultivated crops, transport and power systems that would all be screwed up.
So, would you chose to use Nuclear Bacterial and Chemical weapons on Third WOrld countries to keep your grandkids alive, or not? that's what it would come to, vast population migrations, total war over just food and water...ethnic cleansing deluxe which will make the Nazis look like amateurs :(

I live next to one of the worst pollution sites in Europe, it's cost £100 million to clear up, they keep finding more poisons, and they planned ot build houses on it, next to the **2/3rds of a million tons of heavy metal poisoned ** earth they buried under an artifical hill...in blatant violation of common sense and decency.
Not ONE penny has been spent on cleairng up the town around the site (they built the plant right beside the town, morons!), nor dealing with the hugely increased rates of early deaths cancer rate etc, which even local doctors know is the case.

In such debates, people, follow the money.

2.8 Duo fitted, now I can see the benifits. The renders ar more to the liking of myself. Paid $39 for the graphics and $10 for the 2.8 Duo. Now if I could get Vue 8 infinite for $100 I would be smug.

To fully realize Vue requires the latest NVidia GPU's, a quad core or an i7, 12 gigs RAM or more which is about 1 year old tech in off the shelf machines. Number one however is of course 64 bit OS. The leap to 64 bit is like being reborn :) 32 bit is like driving a 50cc scooter over a mountain pass. You will make it but it will take forever. Vue8 is a hungry beast :) Vue 7 ran fine on my old Duo with an 8800 GTX and so should 8, I have not tried. It will just be slow and you will have issues with infinite terrains and procedurals with displacement. You also have the option of the software Open GL implementation.

The last time I stopped by my favorite computer store there are no longer any 32 bit machines in sight. They will not be missed. The last will go out for Christmas Gifts on the $399 laptop page of the ad's.

I read a post by somebody supposedly in the know that the next version of Windows will be 128 bit and the machines are in the works. 2013 he said.

An artist can make do with the hardware they have.  Great stuff was created way before there was 64-bit.  If one thinks 64-bit will make their gallery look better, they are mistaken.  It will just allow more of their mistakes and lazy bad habits to creep into their scenes.  More does not mean better.

I don't know where you live, but I want to move there. Where I am, off the shelf machines don't come anywhere near to meeting such specs. That's why I have been configuring my own setup in order to get going again with Vue (8) - a system which is just about what you suggest (only 4GB less RAM) and will set me back 1800 euros (ie., 2500 dollars). I don't think so...

1800 euros?! even with "rip off Britain" prices it woin't cost that much :p

I have a quad core with 2.04 chips, 3 gig of ram and a 256 graphics card, I know that those specs are basic and a bit puny nowadays for 3d work and I realise that vue needs alot of resources, but vue is the only 3D prog I personally have (tried) to use that drags its feet with even the simplest of tasks and I feel Im back 12 years ago with my old single core 1.04 chip, I really would love to get into using vue but it seems I just cant keep up with the spec needed. Pitty realy   

I really love Vue but it gets harder and harder to defend the render times; I'm also a bit irritated that they can't implement rendering by graphic cards.

My NVidia card has 192 cores a' 1 Ghz (= 200 Ghz render power; Crysis looks like a dream, lol) and still I have to render on a measle quad core (4x 2Ghz).

Maybe Vue needs a totally new engine so that we can render in realtime (like the Sandbox engine/Crysis)...E-on should contact Crytek asap! :-) 

I played Crysis Warhead om my new laptop and I also created/rendered a Vue scene...Vue almost burned my quad laptop and it took 1 hour to render a simple (Glob.Illum.) scene while in Crysis I walked around in real time with much better scenes compared to what I created...I feel embarassed! lol  

but can it import a Poser figure? or do a trillion poly eco system?

it would be great if they could use the power of the new GPU chips to help renders, it may come, it may not, problem is ther'es two brands of GPU at moment, and they keep changing 'em...and hey may go bust suddenly (see Voodoo video cards 10+ years ago) so then what?

I view render time as time i can be playing with my dog, doing house work etc ;)

Yep! Agree completely. As I've written elsewhere, most (not all, of course) problems people run into with Vue, are caused by rushing things, being lazy and impatient etc.
Lots of techniques that could still be handy seem to be forgotten, now the Vue comunity purchase their stuff instead of trying to make it themselves.
Hence the artistic and/or technical level flattens, a lot of the "newcomers" can make good looking stuff (based on tutorials and bought items - not particularly original!), but the more experienced users tend to settle for less (on what they can purchase) and not being innovative.
