Subject: .mat files with giveaways?

How do I save a material that came with a freebie?  I am just starting out and need to build up .mat files fast.  I know that there is a way to save items within a giveaway individually but is it legal to save just the material?  If it is, how do I do it?

click on the little disk icon, bottom right hand corner of the material editor when you have the material you want loaded and it should allow you to save it.
It's legal to save out materials for your own personal use but you can't then redistribute them

Thank you very much for your time.  I thought that is what I was doing, but I must have done something wrong?  I tried it again after your answer and it worked.  Thank you for your help and time yet again...
