Subject: Reading threads: wouldn't it be cool if...

...one could read Poser forum thread on your iPhone? Well, you can, but all the images load, and you chew through 150 meg (my data limit with Telstra - should have gone with Optus!) pdq.
I can read my gmail for dirt cheap, thank goodness! Once I sorted out what was eating up my data limit, I've been sticking with gmail... pretty much anyone who wants to get ahold of me now uses that.

I was just looking at getting a USB3G card for my laptop last week. I don't understand the mentality of limiting data on 3G networks like Verizon does when Cricket gives you unlimited data for a dollar more!

I didn't realise I could go out and BUY a bloody iPhone 3G for a hundred bucks... I could have gone with Optus! :m_cry:

Don't know if this applies to other countries, but here in the UK "unlimited data" doesn't mean unlimited data. There is usually something in the small print about "fair use policy" meaning that if you go over what they consider is a reasonable amount, they can charge you for it or terminate your contract. Different providers have different limits on what they term as fair use.

My iPhone has 8 gig of memory. Fair use would quickly be reached, I think. I get 150meg per month for $10. That's plenty for emails and if Rendo somehow were to serve forums in some text-only form, I'd be able to follow threads too, without coming close to my limit.

Anyway, I think it's those dad-blamed UTube videos that are to blame!

The thing is, I watch lots of streaming videos on my desktop and would love to drop the cable provider for a USB 3G Modem that I could just take with me when I leave the house to use on the laptop. For that, I'd need the same unlimited bandwidth that I get from Cable or DSL. I don't think here in the states they can say unlimited if it's not.

I have a 16gb iPhone with AT&T.  With AT&T you have to sign up with the data plan with the iPhone and it's $39.00/mo and it's unlimited data.  I got the iPhone referbished for $100 under the 2 year plan.  My Razor broke and I had to get another phone so $100 to have an iPhone was great for me.

Screen is a bit small for the forums, but I have used it with lots of zooming in and out and swipping back and forth and up and down to read a long post.

regular YouTube streaming vids are no problem but tutorial videos are pretty much audio only.  I have a Gnomon vid tutorial and threw it on the iPhone and you basically just see the screen but can't really make out what's being done on it - audio is fine.

but watching cats paly piano on YouTube vids, well there's no problem there.

Nothing better than a good YouTube kitty video to make my day!
