Subject: What is your favorite art theme and art style?

FightingWolf ( ) posted Fri, 11 December 2009 at 7:08 AM · edited Fri, 13 December 2024 at 11:53 PM

I'm full of questions these days. Just when I think I'm done another one comes to mind.

What is your favorite art theme? For example, animals, cars, guns, action, etc.

What is your favorite art style? For example, images that look like sketches, paintings, computer generated art, realism, anime /manga, fantasy. etc.

Fantasy includes anything mystical and not just the Conan the Barbarian and dragon type art.

Subjects - SF, real life, Surrealism.  Styles - realistic but not "realism" per se.

I really don't like Fantasy.

  1. No preferences. Anything thats well done and catches my eye.
  2. Anything that doesnt feature barbie like females in skimpy clothes. I'm sick of those.

There is quite a bit of those around. I haven't seen as much nudity as I have seen before which is good some of it was just really out there.

There is hardly anything else around. Goth girlz and fairies in clothes that hardly cover their private parts. I dont know where the puffed up lips came from but these days all characters have it. Lately even males. Do people really go for that?
So when I see a render in the galleries with a character like that and people posting "AWESOME! So realistic!" etc I doubt my own sanity.
Maybe I'm just too old.lol

BTW I dont mind nudity.

I prefer reality-based everyday type scenes. My preferred render style is realism but not photo-realism. I guess what some might call a digital painting.

I like when I'm able to get my renders to look like paintings. Most of the time I'm trying to get rid of the computer generated look.  I was really happy when I was able to create this picture because it didn't have that computer generated look that so many renders have. http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?

I do like the computer generated look but I've always been a fan of traditional arts like drawing and painting so I'm always amazed when I see computer generated art that looks like a painting.

I guess I like most styles, as long as they are well done. I don't have a preferred style.

I guess I really like scenes where there is more than one figure and the relationship between the figure is tangible. Charley is a fantastic artist at making his scenes feel like there's something going on between his characters. I find that thoroughly appealing.

Pre-Raphealites (what's so special about Raphael anyways, he's just a turtle with a mask...;)
Socialist Realism
Surrealism (especially Escher)
Art Nouveau (yeah, it's misspelled...right?) Alphonse Mucha, especially.
Realistic non-Anime cartoons (sorry, but grade-schoolers looking like Dolly Parton give me the
                creeps)
The Old Masters (not the cigar...;)
Heck, i haven't even scratched the surface...;)

Oh, and Sci-fi, Space, Cities, Sword and Sorcery, Military, and Music.

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

I like renders that look more like paintings or drawings than they do a computer render. In other words you can look at some renders and tell that a computer made it and others you can't tell if someone painted it.

FightingWolf you should look into PostworkShop. It's a program I am beta testing and it has tremendous upside to it, very cool with drawing and painting looks.

Aye. I usually don't pimp products. But let me just say this, I'm an artist, I like to create, and this app lets me do that very quickly and with great results. 😉

Guess I like all "the usual stuff", but especially scenes featuring real-world contemporary settings.

In fantasy or sci-fi you have a built-in excuse for when things don't look plausible, but when you do the ordinary stuff everyone can spot what's wrong.

Mind, I prefer exaggerated reality. You can have too much of everyday things, after all :)
