Subject: Poser Shaders in Vue 8

EricJ ( ) posted Sat, 14 November 2009 at 2:42 PM · edited Wed, 05 February 2025 at 4:13 PM

I'm looking to upgrade my render program to either Carrara or Vue. I already have Carrara so I was just going to use it when I noticed that Vue 8's 3D Import claims to support Poser's shaders.

I love Poser's shaders and I've mostly figured them out so being able to use them in Vue qould be a huge benefit to me.

How well do the shaders actually import to Vue? Do they look the same, or is tweaking required. Does it support all of the nodes for the Poser shaders?

If anyone should test this, its Baggins Bill.

I'm betting he can break it in less then 5 minutes.

Vue actually uses Poser to do the rendering of the skin shaders (at least I think it does.)  Uses up serious amounts of resources though.  If you want good looking skin shaders in Vue, look at getting SkinVue over at Cornucopia3D.  Much better

I differ with Frank here, we always have [LOL], Skinvue is a great tool for sure especially if resources are tight, However I import using the Poser shaders, most work ok and look just as good as in Poser IMO....But, there are some skin shaders for example that don't come in right, some of the shaders can appear as black squiggly lines on the texture that look a bit like worms going through the skin, cool for some scenes but not if you don't want them there. On the whole I have excellent results with the Poser shaders inside Vue, always have.

For me, if resources are tight go with SkinVue, if resources are plentifull stick with shaders.
Just my opinion of course.

The OP said nothing at all about skin vue or skin shaders.. and there are many uses for shaders other then for skin, so I think you guys are sliding a bit off the topic.

Gareee, you need to read my post again, clearly I am speaking of shaders in General, I then say some Skin shaders don't come in right, my entire post was about shaders in general, if you care to read it properly!

In the long run I would learn to use Vue's shaders, but since I'm fairly comfortable with Poser's shaders I would want to use them in the short term.

I have Vista 64 with 8gigs of ram so hopefully that will be enough.

Anyway I'm still slugging t along with the free version of Vue to see if I like it. And budgeting to see if I can afford the $300 for the minimum capabiities that I need. :)

EricJ, my rig is the same so you should be ok with that!
Vue 8 also uses the grpahics RAM so you need a decent card too, I currently use an Nvidia 9800GT1 Gig card with just over 700 Meg set  for Vue 8.

Well, I did some budgeting and decided to take the leap!

So far the Poser shaders look great, and I love eco-systems! Now I'll have to save my pennies for eco-painter.

i use poser shaders because i toon in poser using olivier's shaders from rdna with shaderworks to toon a whole scene easily.  then if i need to, i bring the scene into vue and the tooning stays. love esther ps characters textures often get mixed in vue if you bring in several characters in one pz3- sometimes reloading will help.

Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

Just don't use Vue 8, poser shaders don't work right at all... V4 figures are always green:( Vue 8 sucks actually, stick with Vue 6I... that product rocks!

Can't use custom textures with Skin Vue, very limited:)

thefixer ( ) posted Mon, 14 December 2009 at 3:24 AM

rbratche:  The green V4's was an issue with Vue 7 and was fixed, I haven't seen any green textures with V4 inside Vue 8!
There are some small differences in some textures but nothing that would bother anyone IMO and these are few and far between!

Here's what I'm getting with Vue 8 along with a host of other problems also??? I never bought Vue 7, but never had this problem in Vue 4,5,6 or 6I, only 8 and the new patch made things worse:( And as you know I know my way around Poser and Vue, Vue 8 is a major step backwards and is really buggy on my system! And my system has plenty of resources... 3.02ghz I7 processor, 12gigs ddr3 ram, windows 7 64bit, NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT video card. With the patch moving imported poser figures is slow as a snail, Vue 6I still renders and works great with this system, Vue 8 was a waste of money that I can't get refunded, and Eon support has been awful. Very disappointed with them my friend... enough so far unless they fix it to not buy their products any more!

thefixer ( ) posted Mon, 14 December 2009 at 10:10 AM

Hi friend, ok if this is the same problem as Vue 7 had then there is a work around, try this. Note this will only work if it's the same issue as Vue 7 had, I have to say though that I've not seen this in Vue 8 myself. We commonly refferred to this as the "Hulk" issue in Vue 7, [LOL].

Now look at the diffuse channel of your character skin inside Poser, if it's a light blue colour you need to change it to pure white, that should sort out your green skin [if it's the same issue].
If it is that you also need to report it to e-on!

Me too.  Most end-users though just want to import and render their newly bought content without putting much effort or thought into a scene.  They think their high-end system will make the art for them.

My last comment was removed from this forum, and it was a polite reply to the above comment and seeming personal slam against me because I disagree with some others here! Since that is the way the forums are working I will refrain from any further discussion here!
