or is it way to much to ask for? Isn't there some sort of magical converter that opens up all files..and all you have to do is save in whatever format you want?

I know I've asked this question before.. even for vue files..and the answer for vue was no, (sigh..the sadness that created!) for .max was a happy complicated answer.. you needed max to open it up.. and I tried with a trial version.. but it came out warped. I think bobbystarh was pitched in with his tutorials..

but..maybe someone came up with something by now?

max is a proprietary format involving all kinds if max specific stuff that must be saved out of max as .obj o.3ds There is no converter that will even open max files without max installed in which case you'd not need the converter...twisted.. ...

bobbystarh..i found this gorgeous model of a christmas tree for my christmas card.. but it is in max. And so many other gorgeous models are in max or vue.

Like I said previously rosie, bith vue and max are proprietary formats and will only open in vue or max...there ain't a coverter made that can do either.. ...

If you want it converted post to the 3dsmax forum and maybe someone there will convert it to 3ds or obj for ya

Where are you finding the trees, erosiaart? Maybe I can take a look and see if I can get the tree converted from max to obj or 3DS. Not promising anything.
