 Hello all,

DAZ3D has announced in the forums (Latest news and offers) that Bryce 6.3 is available and will be free to current Bryce 6 owners. They will reset the downloads.
Also, they state that they are working in the next version scheduled to be released in 2010.

Best regards

Ramon

Yeah Foleypro, that's what I'm on about. I'm still working off of 5.5. I personally didn't feel that 6 was worth the purchase...but, that's just me. So I'm elated about Bryce 7 finally getting here and it couldn't get here fast enough for me.

LOL...yes, two whole years if you believe in that kind of thing.

The Bryce 6.3 dl I'm. dl-ing says:
*Bryce 6.3 - Upgrade from Bryce 5.0 or 5.5

*Do we have to roll back to 5.5 to install this or did they just miss saying 6.0 and 6.1?

Yes Tom you are supposed to uninstall 6.1 before installing 6.3.  Remember to backup your user obp's and user materials before uninstalling.

I hope we will be able to animate materials in this version.

Tom Foleypro was right. You do not have to uninstall.  6.3 installs to a new folder so it does not overwrite anything.  I just installed and it went fine for me.  Sorry I misspoke earlier.

I NEVER want to uninstall the previous version of Bryce.  It feels so much safer to still have a version that you already KNOW works when trying to get a new one to install/work/use the vast libraries of presets I collected and made....

Phew!

The arrival of Bryce6.3 is sneakily timed to take as much grumpiness out of this new merger as possible - at least on the part of us Brycers - I also decided to buy the bundle, quick while I've still got a little money left - and boy they weren't wrong about it being massive!

Now what I want to know is - what do they mean Bryce 7 coming in 2010?

December? August?  Maybe even.... (gasp!) January???

RayRaz,

I think 6.3 is just a stability and some bug fixes release.

B6.3 uses another app - c++ - as part of the installation proc. If your installation stalls make sure the C++ is not hiding behind something on your desktop.

It should also be a seperate install from 6.1 - not an overwrite. I recommend installing the content too.

Vile,
What I do is: install the content that goes with that release (just to make sure things work correctly)  and then I use Windows Explorer to copy across all my collected and made by me content from the previous version, so I have both.

If any folders have the same name (and lots will) I rename the New ones just with an additional number as for instance Architecture2.

Then I can take my time deleting all the content/preset folders that are just the same, 'cos my currently in use ones may have the original Daz content plus stuff I've added myself.

In which case I'll delete the new smaller ones... but as the new ones may have new or different content until they are installed and I can take a look, I won't know that...

On the by the by... I just found out something interesting.... In version 6.3 if you should click on the big S button on the far right of the create menu bar, if you have both Studio 2 and 3, it will ask you which one to run. Scanning for content while you have it open in Bryce is a no no... Both Bryce and Studio 3 close without so much as a fare thee well... I'm not a Studio 3 user... I am like on the back burner of technology as far as Studio and Poser goes...

So I suggest you either do your content search in Studio 3 before you open up Bryce... One more thing... Prepare to have nothing scheduled if you're going to use Bryce 6.3 and Studion3 together. They both load and run very ssslllloooowww!!!!
Haven't done any rendering yet, so I don't know if it's faster than the previous version or not... But the default ground plane mat is very horrendous! So I really wish they would in the next edition of Bryce change the mat to one that loads real fast like the basic gray.

Other that that.... Looks like they "fixed" the Bridge between Studio and Bryce. Now I'm off to prune the directories scanned...

This update was mainly for Mac users. 6.3 is primarily code rewriting for compatibility with Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard, with a lot of minor tweaks and bug fixes for both the Windows and Mac versions. I am sure that they have given it heaps of beta testing. I gleaned this from the DAZ forums and responses to lots of Snow Leopard bugs I have been reporting.

I think they picked the holiday season as release date for 6.3 cuz it might boost the sales for bryce related content and such. As we all know, the release of even just a minor version creates quite a buzz in the world of bryce!
However, since the new version 7 isnt being released around the holidays, i would guess its going to be at the very least several months later before we get a new version. I wouldnt be surprised if it'll end up being released in the 4th quarter of 2010.

Its stable to some degree...
Alot of things were fixed especially on the mac side...
In some cases the render speeds decreased because of a major BUG from 6.1...

But 7 is on the horizon and they did say 2010....

I wonder ... It certainly keeps crashing on PowerMac 10.5.8 Leopard ... And my Mac won't run Snow Leopard. I'm still using version 6 as every upgrade since has failed to work on 10.4.11 Tiger.
Let's hope this is just a test version and that version 7 will be the real deal!

I've often wondered if they can keep Bryce interface and ease of use and ease of scene setup but incorporate the Carrara Render engine for speed on previews and final render. Would that be cool or what?

Here is what I do:  change the default ground plane to basic grey.  Set 'Document Setup' to your usually preferred size (if it is different from the default).  You can at this point change anything else you want, such a new sky - but I don't bother.  Finally, 'SAVE AS'.. this scene into the same location as the Bryce application file, naming it 'default'.   This is now your new default startup scene, complete with basic grey ground plane.

I used to do this in Windows, but now I'm on Mac and it works there too.  So far Bryce 6.3 seems to be working well with my iMac and MacOS 10.6.2.
