Now that I have Vue working and registered I want to import some of the content that came on the second disc. Can somebody aim me at a tutorial on importing stuff?

Just unzip the disk and copy/move the files to the folders.

By default, Vue uses the My Documentse-on softwareVue 6 Infinite folder. Vista uses the document/e.on/vue 6 Infinite folder.

If it's a *.atm file it goes in Atmospheres
If it's a *.bmp, *.jpg, *.tif file it goes in Bitmaps (unless it was included with an *.obj file)
If it's a *.cld file it goes in Clouds.
If it's a *.clr file it goes in Color Maps.
If it's a *.flt file it goes in Filters.
If it's a *.fnc file it goes in Functions.
If it's a *.mat file it goes in Materials
If it's a *.vob file it goes in Objects
If it's a *.veg file it goes in Plants.
If it's a *.vue file it goes in Scenes.
If it's a *.txs file it goes in Text Styles.

That’s a lot of files! Now, in each main folder above, you can use sub-folders… So, for
Objects, you can have the following:
ObjectsBuildings
ObjectsBuildingsCastles
ObjectsBuildingsSciFi
ObjectsBuildingsDarkAnvil
ObjectsBuildingsStoneMason
↓
etc…

I'm thinking part of my problem might be that I am using Windows 7. Would that change things?

No, its the same for Windows 7

Well, I've tried that but nothing shows up when I try to access them for a scene. After moving them do I have to update anything?

I extract the content folder to my data drive.  Then when I need to load a content item that Vue thinks is on a CD, I just tell Vue where the content folder is stored and Vue will scan it as if it is a CD and ask if I want to copy the content to my Vue install so it won't ask for the folder location each time.

What do you do to tell Vue where to look for the content? Do you click on "open" or what?

You should be able to just drag the content files into the folder mentioned above. You may have to restart Vue before it finds it. As long as you put it in the default folders, that should work.

If you want to use another location you can set that up in the File>Options>Operations then click on the edit button by Vue Content Folder.

I'm assuming you have a recent version as you don't say.

Windows 7 is irrelevant.

I found the answer over at Cornucopia. Seems on 7 or Vista you have to ALWAYS run Vue as administrator.

that's a given with both for any major app, even some games, sigh

Well, I just went from a Mac to a PC so, for me at least in this PC-centric world, it is not exactly a given.

This is why I don't install anything under program files (or even on the OS partition if I can help it)

When I click on OPEN, Vue asks me to select the scene to load.  I'll select Cerro Verde from Samples 1 which has never been opened yet on my system.  Vue then asks me where my collections are because I don't tell Vue to locate the file manually (to painful to search myself).  Then I tell it where my "Vue 8 Extras Disk" folder is.  Vue then searches through the subfolders and copies the collection to my C: drive so that it won't ask me again for the contents folder to load that scene.
