Subject: OT but please read - genuine feelgood factor inside

SamTherapy ( ) posted Mon, 28 December 2009 at 11:12 PM · edited Wed, 25 December 2024 at 12:45 PM

I'm a member of a musician's website, founded by a bunch of us who were really hacked off with all the stupid posts on another one.  We formed our own community and developed the idea of collaborating on tracks, using the net to send files across to each other.

During my time there I made quite a few friends, some of whom I have met in person, others I've spoken to on the phone or just on the forums.

Today, right out of the blue, one of the guys called me and told me FedEx are delivering a package within the next couple of days.  It transpires this ain't just any old package, it's a guitar.  Not just any old guitar, either, but a ludicrously good and rather expensive guitar.  All for me, all for free.  Dunno what on earth I have done to deserve such generosity; I'm unbelievably grateful and in a state of shock.

I am completely dumbfounded by this gent's generosity.  He's hand picked this instrument, bought it, then paid for it to be insured and shipped over from the USA to me.

So it seems, Santa is stopping by my house on his way home.

Wow.  Lost for words now.

Aw....I've had the same thing from people on the forums (ya'll know who ya are!!). It's touching in a way I can't explain: that someone who's never even met you can show such generosity is amazing in this day and age. I guess that's why it's doubly sweet, at least to me ;o). It doesn't help that I'm so horrible at thanking people and especially that I'm not in a financial position to return the favor. Ah well, maybe someday :o).

Enjoy your present - you'll think of "Santa" everytime you play it, I'm certain ;o). It's nice to have secret Santa every now and then...lol.

It's nice to hear about good people like this.

Sam, if you don't mind my asking, what is the site where you and the other musicians post?  And, what kind of axe is it?

The site is called Cyberjammin and it's by invitation only.

The guitar is - well, I dunno but from what I know of the gent who bought it for me, it'll be a seriously good piece of kit.  Most likely an acoustic, since we were discussing the merits of various models a while ago.  I know he's very much a fan of Taylor guitars, so I'm inclined to think it may well be one of those.

More news as and when I know anything else.

What a beautiful guitar! Well done, ST - it's going to a good home! Are you going to record something for us to appreciate both the sound of the instrument and the talent of the artist? (nothing like putting you on the spot, hey? )

Nope.  Not for the immediate future, at any rate.  All my recording gear is packed away because we're currently in a tiny little apartment and there's no room to record without either me disturbing Sam or Sam disturbing me.

I will, however, play the little lad some nice songs.  I was thinking of getting out the Les Paul and Marshall to give him a rendition of The Ace of Spades and possibly a selection of Metallica tunes, since I love those gentle romantic ballads so much.

Recording gear! I didn't realise it was so involved. Begging your pardon for the suggestion...

Yes, your choice to entertain little Sam is a brilliant one: after all, that's the whole point, isn't it?

If you want nice romantic ballads, can I suggest a medley of Slayer, Rammstein and Dimmu Borgir?

Works for me every time
