Subject: does poser8 render is quicker than poser7 (same preference in firefly) on recent

usamike ( ) posted Sat, 02 January 2010 at 5:09 AM · edited Sat, 02 November 2024 at 11:49 AM

hi !

i am interesting in the purchase of poser8 only if the render is quicker than poser7 (and poser pro) on a recent hardware (core i7) and software (win7 64bits).

does the speed of poser8's render make poser7 gone in the bucket ?

Does the US $129.99 money is really a good deal for the upgrade ? i'm care only about the speed render.

what do you think about that ?

I think you never read all the threads about P8 here

If your settings are the same as in previous versions of Poser (same lights, same shadow settings etc), then yes. If you use the new IDL, your mileage may vary. However, much of it depends on how optimised your PC is for 3D stuff... so even there, YMMV...

if someone amongst you own both pose7 and poser8, shall you please make twice this test and report the result please :

please : don't critical the test, it is only what we got to evaluate and estimate a hardware for poser.

Online Now!

I think the upgrade price is a great deal just to get  IDL, if nothing else.  Plus it includes Wardrobe Wizard 2...

that's great, but what i do the more with poser7 is animation , figure's animation.
and the more the render is faster in poser8, the better i will !
Last year i did an animation of 27hours render, so i'm expecting very more things in poser8 than wardrobe and idl. IDL and gallery interface was never been the weak for me, in my work.
The time i gain is more precious cause for me....
my download is soon finished (poser 8 trial), so i will be in action this night !

plus you get a ton of other goodies over a gigabyte of neat stuff (pre made walls with windows, with doors, blank walls, corner walls, floors, ceiling that you can make neat rooms hallways etc).  SCI FI corridors for space stations, a mini Cooper car with doors that open, wheels that turn seats that move, top and hood  that goes down and up, fully textured that you can modify.  A tank that has a moveable turret, cannon that moves, hatches that open and close, machine gun that moves, threads that move.  Plus tons of hair and clothing both conforming and dynamic).  Plus several anamie characters, plus clothes for them, Jewelry etc.  Jan

the short answer is yes, Poser 8 renders way faster if you have multiple cores.

i had my final answer :

my quote :

Quote - so at last, with 4 more threads (p8 uses my 8 threads where p7 uses 4), poser 8 renderfirefly is x1.42 quicker than poser 7.

More information there.

Thanks for all. End of topic for me. i am going to cash the bank now :-)
