Crash:

• Start Poser 8
• Select Andy's Head
• Hit Del Key
• Select "Ok"
• Hangs (not responding).

System: - Windows 7 Pro x64

• Core i7-920 with 12GB
• NVidia GTX 275 - Drivers 195.62
• 30" monitor 2560x1600
• Adobe Flash 10.1 Beta 2

I downloaded the Poser 8 upgrade version on Friday.  Installed it on Saturday, with SR2.1 patch and content patch.  Was able to delete Andy, but didn't do much on Saturday.  Tried today and it all the time.

I'm a heavy computer user.  I develop MCAE/CAD graphics software in VS2008 C++ for living.  The system appears to be running problem free.

I'm going to try and reinstall Poser 8.

try shift+delete.  Stops Poser storing an undo point

It has something to do with flash.  I deleted Active X flash.  Flash still works in FireFox, but not in IE.  Poser 8 no longer hangs when deleting Andy.  On the other hand no content shows up.

The normal cause for this issue is the Display driver..

Try reinstalling the latest Flash for IE and make sure you have the latest Driver for your Graphics Chip Set installed. If the issue persists, change to SreeD Preview.

If it still persists, contact Tech Support at Smith Micro... you can say Attn John in the Subject and I will look for it.

And of course, you should set your preferred state so that Andy doesn't load every time.

I went back to the released version of Flash 10, and everything works.  It looks like Flash 10.1 Beta 2 doesn't work.  Most people are having trouble playing 1080p Flash video(YuoTube).  Also Flash video on cell phones, etc.  So Adobe finally got serious about Flash performance.  Adobe added GPU acceleration to speed up Flash video.  My guess is this will be the default Flash player by the end of the quarter.  There is a good article at AnandTech about it.

Well I thought I was the only one until I seached and found this thread.

Everytime there is a dialog box of any kind that requires you to click on OK, my Poser 8 just hangs.

I've followed the advice here. I switched to SreeD and still the problem persists. I launched in prefered state with a blank screen. I add a figure, add a single piece of clothing and conform click OK and it hangs.

I can't get anywhere with  this program.

and yes I have the absolute latest video drivers installed.

Having the exact same problem. If I run disc cleanup and restart, I'll be able to work with it for a little bit, but then the problem pops back up again. Any dialogue box causes a hang, and sometimes it'll hang when trying to render, too. 

Bandolin, where's your Poser installed? It sounds like it may be some sort of permission problem (UAC thing)

Make sure it's NOT installed in Program Files, install it directly in the root of whatever drive you prefer it to be on.

See if that helps.

Skeletonkiss.. you didn't say if your setup was identical, but if you're also on Vista or Win7, pay attention to where it's installed. It's a typical source of problem with Poser if it is in Program Files.

@Bandolin: Windows XP and 2,5 GB RAM works okay. Windows 7 need 2 GB of RAM for stand alone because it is full of flashy kitschy graphic nonsense. So use any other 3D software program and you have the same problems you have with Poser now. Or you switch off all Windows 7 related graphic stuff.

But what is the idea of using 3D software and less than 6 GB RAM AND NO 64bit anyway? Get realistic. You'll never have a smooth workflow with your RAM of 2,5 GB RAM except you go back to Win XP.

Mackis please stop telling ppl Windows 7 needs 2gb minimum when it's plainly not true.

you can run it on a 1gb ram NETBOOK with no issues. same kernel as Home/Pro/Ultimate.

Magnus: It needs less than 2GB, okay. But still more than you think (1,7GB not the whole time of course), enough benchmark tests proved it. Enough people who had no problems with XP and Poser 8 proved it here too. And the netbook Win 7 with no issues? Please do some reading up? Oh well... from the gerbil army of course. LOL

excuse me. I'm being serious. I can quote benchmarks, sources etc from reptuable sources which prove you wrong.

my tagline is NOT an issue with you telling ppl the wrong things so please leave that out of it.

For what it's worth, I have a netbook with Windows 7 64bit full Home Premium and 2 gigs of ram total. I have no problems with it ;o). I can even run Poser 8, tho it's a bit slow because of the single core Celeron proc most likely. Poser 7 runs better.

and thats to start with. I would have included Gizmodo's own users experiences, but the Gawker search engine is having issues.

Forgot to mention that my netbook came from Gateway with Win7 64bit installed on a system that has only 2 gigs of ram and a 1 gig single core Celeron processor. I can only think that Gateway knows what they're doing ;o). I really haven't had trouble running anything I've put on it.

yes... my Laptop - Dell Inspiron 1501, 2GB onboard, ATI graphics (vista driver - no 7 driver for the chipset), runs Windows 7 sweetly... infact it runs things it couldn't run when Vista was installed...

I tried an uninstall and reinstalling in the root directory. Still having the same issue.

Can we get back to talking about the hanging issue? Would really love to figure out what's causing it.

As for that Mackis3D character, I've been doing 3D for about 10 years now. I currently run 3ds Max 2011, Maya 2011, Mudbox, UDK, Zbrush, Vue Xtreme 9.0 with no problems on my 2.5 Gb machine. Poser is the only app giving me issues and of course the latest games but who has time to play them when you're into 3D. : P

TrekkieGrrl I'll try what you say but the way permissions works in Win7 as I see it, is not restricted to the Programs folder. No matter where Poser is installed (especially if it is not on the C Drive) will cause permissions issues. I have a couple of apps installed that way and everytime I run them I get that windows dialog asking for permission to run it just like you do when you run an install.

same issue here.

Poser Pro2010 hangs when pushing the "render" button, or pressing "ok" in any dialog.

(Render to queue worked).

I reinstalled Poser, no change.

Then I deleted Flash, no change.

Then I reinstalled flash (latest version 10.2) and upgraded the Video drivers (for NVIDIA 8800GT), and rebooted => now it works again.

No idea why a video driver could cause such a thing, but hey, I can do 3D again!

I've given up on PoserPro and returned to Poser 7. I've done all the aforementioned that Michael314 with no success.

I too had this issue .... now corrected.

Make sure use external displacement maps is turned off.

its under options.

this one button fixes this issue for me and to test after it was working correct for months i turned this option back on and went back to hanging on delete and render.

turned it back off and once again no issue ...

All.. The issue with hanging on Deletion or when clicking OK in a Prompt Window is a Display Driver issue. Either your OpenGL does not support Poser's requirements (some intel Chipsets have this issue) In those cases, switching to SreeD Preview will resolve the issue.

In other cases, the Driver is out of date. Do not rely on MS Updater for Display Drivers... go to the source, which is ATI (AMD) or nVidia's Web Sites and download the latest Driver to your system and install.

If the issue persists, try removing the device using Device Manager, reboot and let Windows install the default Driver, then install the latest.

(There have been issues in the past with some Driver updates from both ATI and nVidia that only way to fix was removing the Device, but I have not seen that in a long time.)

If all that fails, contact Support. NOTE: You may want to install the Driver in Diagnostic Mode, or at least, right click and Run As Administrator.

Though I have never experienced it and not sure if it is indication of a resource issue more so than a Display issue, but some users reported shutting off all the fancy display stuff in Windows 7 fixed Display issues like this once they had the latest Driver installed.

I have tried switching to SreeD Preview. It did not solve the issue.

I have visited AMD, downloaded the latest driver for the FirePro V7300 and installed it. It did not solve the issue.

If the issue persists, try removing the device using Device Manager, reboot and let Windows install the default Driver, then install the latest.
