Subject: Problem with light effects on particles?

pauljs75 ( ) posted Sun, 03 January 2010 at 9:58 PM · edited Sat, 02 November 2024 at 12:43 PM

Just wondering if anyone figured out how to get light effects to work when using a particle generator to spawn light objects. I have a bulb light with circle and star effect applied and as a child of the particle emitter, but neither seem to show on the spawned particles.

I'm using Carrara 6, so I'd like an answer relevant to that version if possible.

Hmmm...  So maybe instead of having a light as a spawned object of an emitter, perhaps I should have an emitter as an object under an anything glows light?

:m_confused2:

I'll have to try that next.

Didn't see that in the text yet, but looking at soom vids with (luminous) metaball particles suggests that's what's going on.

C6 doesn't have particles with Light Effects, but will show cast light emitted. C7 does have the light effects for particles(except for Light Sphere iirc).

I've used anything glows attached to particle emitters and it works.  However, if you just use a value that can go above 100 in the glow channel for the particle shader and turn the value up way hi and then get your indirect lighting set the way you want when you render, it should also work.

I'm not with my machine at the moment to try it but I don't know if it would have problems.

I've rendered fireworks this way and it's no issue.

I got something that started to look neat, but then found another problem.

My computer is just too slow. :crying:

Some experiment that would at-best resemble a plenoptic effect for a media player isn't exactly worth a month (estimated) of rendering time. If only I could win the lotto and build a decent render-farm...
