Subject: Looking for video and copyright question

Ok before I ask PLEASE don't  flame me I am just asking a copyright question because I would never want to infringe on one. I have read  ulas on several characters and it's confusing to me sooo.  I was wondering if you can render a character in several poses and make a 3d sculpture of that character say out of clay then paint it and sell it.
Also about a year ago I remember seeing a sci-fi video on here a couple of guys did basically they green-screened themselves in costumes and integraded it with some VAP and Stone mason models, it was very interesting idea to me and I can't seem to find it anywhere on here or the web does anyone know what video I'm talking about or where to find it? If I remember right one of the actors wore an eye patch. I thihk it had STAR something in the title.
thanks!

As for your first question, the simple answer is: It depends on the store you purchased from.  I believe that DAZ does NOT allow that, if you want to know if Renderosity items are allowed, please email copyrights@renderosity.com, as I don't know if that's a question that's come up yet, so I don't know...Regardless, it is ALWAYS a good idea to ask permission from the copyright team at the store that is the original point of purchase.  That way, you don't step on toes.

As for your second...I have no idea where to find it, but I hope you do, it sounds interesting!

I don't understand, you can not make a 3d print of your work? it's still artwork as long as you don't sell the mod itself. I guess that counts for film also. bull

You can sell a print, but you cannot make a model out of it, which is essentially what a 3D print is.
Again, those are DAZ rules, for Renderosity rules, please contact the copyright agent at copyright@renderosity.com, and she'll answer you as best she can.

Rereading the original post, if you were to make a sculpture by hand out of clay using the renders as the "model", I wouldn't think there would be a copyright issue, as the orignal mesh isn't used to create the 3d version.  However, it  would  be different if you carved it out  or made molds using a CNC machine or made one via computerized rapid prototyping.

As Jen says, if in doubt, ask the vendor.

The subject has, in the past, been broached many times at DAZ...there were members wanting to make Warcraft-style models based on their DAZ artwork, and were told no. They may have changed their policy, but, for that, you'd have to contact their copyright department ;)
