Subject: Getting prompted to log in to site

pjz99 ( ) posted Wed, 27 January 2010 at 6:21 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 7:01 AM

As of today I am getting prompted to log into the site every time I close/open Internet Explorer 8.  In fact not just this site, but ALL sites that cache login information via cookie.  I have not changed any settings in my browser before this started happening, but just in case I did reset the Tools -> Internet Options -> Privacy slider to minimum ("Accept all cookies") ... this did not make any difference, so I set it back to Low.  "Delete browsing history on exit" is NOT enabled.  Is this just me?  I have been looking around on tech forums and I see this has happened for some other people at different times, but I don't see any special answer.

I looked in C:Documents and Settings(username)Cookies and there are no cookies being stored there, it seems like IE8 has just started throwing cookies away quietly.

Every thime I even open a new tab in an existing session of IE8, it clears all cookes.  Considering just switching to another browser (actuall tried Chrome but it evidently does not work with XP Pro 64-bit).

I'm using Firefox and don't have any problems at the moment.  I know there was a recent critical update for IE which might have borked things - patch for a serious security hole (nothing new there then!)

This is all going on at the same time that my ISP has been giving me major problems, both with the wire and signal and also with mail (too-aggressive spam filter).  Right now I'm not able to download a lot of things including IE8 itself (!)

Gave up and managed to get Firefox downloaded via FTP protocol, which seems to be working fine now.  Oh well, time to sort through some bookmarks I guess.
