I was unable to find another thread that had the information I was looking for so if I missed it sorry :( I just installed poser on my new MAC. which has limited space on my hard drive. I have just downloaded all of the daz3D  figures (now free !!) but as I have limited space opn my hardrive, I would like to have Poser look on my external drive for my runtime folder.. is that possible?

LOL. You're unable to find this information? So I take it you never heard of Google?

In Google type "poser external runtimes"

First match:

Organizing Content: External Runtimes for Poser and DAZ/Studio
artzone.daz3d.com/wiki/doku.php/pub/tutorials/poser/poser-misc30

Third match:
Poser 101; Adding an External Runtime
http://covenantofcreativity.aimoo.com/Poser-Tutorials/Poser-101-Adding-an-External-Runtime-1-271538.html

Fourth match:
Tutorial: Setting up Multiple External Runtimes
http://www.posermocap.com/2008/09/16/tutorial-setting-up-multiple-external-runtimes/

I'll let you find the rest.

If you're specifically unclear on using external drives, yes it works. They can even be network drives, although these are usually annoyingly slow.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Yes. It only looks for the word path :runtime:

I am on a Mac and have one group of runtimes which is just people. Then on a second drive I have another group of runtimes that is buildings, and cars, etc. When you add a new runtime it does not have to be inside the applications Poser folder on your Mac. the !Daz folder with the morphs should to be inside your default runtime library. Others say that is not important. Seems to be less of an issue for me if it is. But my characters and their cr2's again are located elsewhere on my drives. If things seem to take a while to load then create smylinks of the !Daz folder out to these various character runtimes.

Apparently, my spending 5 minutes googling, reading the tutorials to see if they're good, and writing the links for you didn't make it clear I was helping you.

You owe me $17.

Manners start with questioning only if needed. You're like someone who asks for the time while a clock is in front of you.

I thought this forum is for, like, you know... asking stuff about poser, anything about poser, poser issues, poser help...

The very few times i had a question about poser, the very first thing that flashed in my mind was to come here to ask the people that knows a lot more than me by the way, about uh... poser?

Lucky me i always found what i was looking for here, without to have to look some place else...

"Manners start with questioning only if needed"

?

Well, maybe you could tell us what kind of questions we are allowed to make here, poser related of course...

Just a thought, i dont want to start anything here.

Of course all questions about Poser are fine here. I consider postings which say only "use Google" bad style too, but there is no such posting in this thread.

No discussions about the style of actually helpful answers, please.

It's not about what is "allowed" or not, and I was asking myself some things and started a thread when I found no answers to it in the forum. What I meant: I think a good start would be to first READ what is already in the topics of the Poser main thread and then ask. Some people think they don't have to read or do their own search, instead they ask for everything believing that other users are friendly enough to make up for their own laziness. They don't think about the work and time other users spent for the answers out of friendliness. The ignorant answer of the OP to Bagginsbill is a typical example for that.

It's a shame you can't deduct the value of all of the advice you've given on your tax return, BB-you would never owe anything...

bantha said not to discuss it so I'm not.

But just to set the record straight, I did not think the question wasn't allowed, even if the OP failed to search first. In fact, the OP said he couldn't find the answer, so I know some attempt was made.

My tongue-in-cheek response was simply because I couldn't imagine how the info was difficult to find, if you use Google. Clearly, the first 4 matches in Google gave me 3 good tutorials. This indicated to me that the OP did not try Google. Of course the OP knows that Google exists. If the OP knows it exists, but does not use it, then the OP is very silly. So I went the other way, and suggested that the OP does not know that Google exists, since that is less insulting than questioning why he didn't use it.

In case that's not clear, let me put it another way. When somebody asks a question, no matter whether they tried to find the answer or not, no matter whether it was asked a thousand times already, I always simply answer the question.

The reason I did more than just answer was the OP said it was difficult to find the information. Had he left that part out, I never would have responded to the issue of being unable to find the info. I would have simply done the search and given the info. I don't expect anybody to search for anything, even though others do.

It can be hard to judge humour on a forum post or in an email.  I had such a misunderstanding just yesterday in an email exchange with someone I've known for 20 years...
