It's just copying in the beta for right now, soon to be True Instancing. Not an eco-system, yet, not by really by a long shot. Not yet, anyway.

Actually the resource is not an echo system.
The Instance lab, just provides a more comfortable way to duplicate objects and to tie them to another one in the group form.
That new resource is far he/she gives to be an echo system in the true conception of the word.
An echo system has several vegetation types, stones, trees, etc....
The only innovation, until the moment, is the instance lab, the rest it continues as before, besides with crash problems.
As it is a version beta, we will await the definitive version and more innovations.
In my opinion, only the instance lab non justice a new version, but a new release.
Thandaluz.
This was mentioned in another thread. Bryce does not do 'eco-sytem'.

Anyone who is waiting for true ecosystems to be incorporated into Bryce will certainly be disappointed. Bryce will be what it's always been; just a novelty. If anyone wants... needs ecosystems; they should go learn Vue.
The discussion certainly is valid, to guess what is for coming it is for prophets, but Bryce is Bryce with your defects and virtues, Vue is Vue with your defects and virtues.
If Bryce had what Vue has, it would not be Bryce it would be Vue, the reciprocal it is true.
All the tools are good, great they are a dedicated artist's works.
If we had excellent materials for Bryce as we have for Vue, certainly the result in Bryce could be same or better.

No, I do not. Just endless frustration that it didn't have the specifications to be what I needed it to be. I tried, just like many others, to believe that Bryce could be anything that the artist wanted it to be..... even if it meant cheating occasionally. However, i'm past that stage and now require an app with more substance. Vue isn't quite that in my opinion, but just as Bryce did in the early days; Vue will suffice till something better comes along.
Bryce will be what it's always been; just a novelty.
Heresy!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I used to think that too my friend, but it seems to me that every company that owns, or at least owns part of Bryce is just not interested in taking advantage of it's potential.
Bryce has a lot of potential in its Materials.
In the past, I have always kinda believed this but now I truly do. While I got lucky here and there over the years creating some Materials, with this latest Bryce 7 beta, I have broken out the Real World Bryce book (The Bryce bible) and took to studying the DTE very seriously. I am far better at it now than I have ever been and I am truly seeing how complex one could get with the DTE.
But, while the DTE has more potential in it than people believe, It certainly is a little inflexible here and there and could use some updating to make the process of Mat creation easier and more robust.

Limitations can be the groundwork for innovations...to take what is considered the limit in Bryce, and then find a way to go past that is truly the test of any Brycer! I,for one, refuse to believe there are limits. It may be frustrating at times, and the result may not be exactly what you were after...but surprises can occur too! I was taught that there is no such word as can't...and will continue to test Bryce...I still find it the most user-friendly app for any level of user.
I would agree the DTE is the most powerful area, and perhaps the most misunderstood part in that there are very few tutorials etc. dealing specifically on this area and how to use it.When you see what someone who has mastered it can accomplish,it truly is amazing! I wasn't suggesting you were bryce-bashing...just my little rant is all that was!
DTE sucks utterly versus a node based material editor
sorry, but that is one part Vue kicks Bryce up and down on, folks ;)
if folk love Bryce, fine, no worries. But the DTE needs put down and something sane, understandable put in it's place. DTE and Mojoworld's material systems are reasons I loathe working in their deep material editors, *uuuuugh
*sorry I want ot make mats, I am NOT a maths geek, I laothe algebraic arcane crap, hehe! ;)
Beyce's basic mat editor is superb, but the DTE = ttotal disconenct from anything that is based on HUMAN PERCEPTION, which is in direct opposition to Bryce's entire ethos
i.e. Bryce's interface is mean o t be for artists, not nuclear power plant engineering nerds like 3DMax's interface is meant for, hehe
Anyway, Vue, tutorial of mine, how I made a "dirt map" material
once made, I can copy the original material of an object, load in the dirt map material to replace it, then paste in the original material, effect is it gives procdural dirt straight away, to any mat
You cna also use UVmapped greyscale images to give it precise dirt mapping
try that in bryce without going nuts ;)
http://www.silverblades-suitcase.com/tutorials/htm/13.html
So you go form THIS, boring and not realistic plank texture
to this, with simple clicks and 10 minute sin a paint editor to make the UV map
this is small rez greyscale to drive where the dirt goes
I don't know how Bryce's isntancing will work, but in Vue I use it for a lot of things, not just plants...
In this pic, I duplicated (which in Vue are instances, but NOT ecosystems) several special lights
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1755936&user_id=7541&np&np
these lights were set to affect nothing and had custom lens flares...stars! ;)
So think out of the box, folk have used Vue instances and plants to make smoke, fire etc (replacing leave textures with transparency driven ones for fire etc)
