Subject: Would this sell well?

If any of you have popped in to the Freestuff section lately, you will see I've been working on an original mecha, complete with numerous optional prop packages (extra weapons, shields, and soon a Maneuver pack, extra command armor, and an AWACS module). Needless to say, I'm a gearhead. What I was thinking of possibly doing for sale is a "Build Your Own Mecha" kit. A basic, bare bones mech, with dozens of smart props that you add in that have: Helmets Faceplates Center Torsos Side Torsos Backpacks Shoulder armor Forearms Calves Hips Feet And of course, various "bolt-on" weapons. Would something like this sell well? And about how much should I charge for this? (It may require a CD, in fact).

Considering the fact that I'm trying to finish an armored suit and I've had to ste ... umm... cobble it together from other pieces, I'd probably buy it. I'd have to look at the piece to be sure, but the concept is something I need. Price, I'm not sure. I'm lucky enough to be able to afford things if I really want them. Look at other items that offer something similar, like offerings by Xurge and Chromecafe.

I'd be interested in something like that. Also, a nice set of basic textures would be good too! Price is hard to say . . . It would depend on the package's combination of versitility, quality, etc. For instance, if the set was versatile enough to recreate all of the Mech Warrior mechs -- well that would be worth a lot. If it was just variants on a standard man-shaped mech -- well I wouldn't pay nearly as much for that . . .

Well, I can say that it will be proportioned more for a Gundam or Macross Valkyrie style mech, or a Five Star Stories mech, rather than the walking tanks of Battletech/Mechwarrior... but I will include some weapon forearms...

heyas; sounds cool, valandar. :) are you planning to make this an in-poser project, or just a collection of objs to assemble in any modeller? check out dragon factory on how i made modular dragons for building in poser; might give you some ideas. :) you also need to think about the licensing of the meshes. if you let people distribute any mechas they create with your package.... well, say somebody makes a mecha and they give it away for free. then anybody can download that and have part of your commercial meshes. this may be okay with you, or it may hurt your sales. try to make your items as versatile as possible. dont do just one style. you can have long arms, short arms, tank treads instead of legs, insect type legs. what if somebody wants to make, like, a centaur mech? two torsos, four legs, two arms.... or an insect... or a four-armed guy... etc etc. think legos... ;)
