Subject: OT? Over 7100! Thanks for the views!

DustRider ( ) posted Fri, 29 January 2010 at 1:17 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 4:16 PM

I just noticed that my very small gallery has over 7100 views! Of course, many of the more talented and active members here probably get more gallery views in a week than my meager 7100+ views. But, when you consider I've only put 15 images in my gallery over a 5 year period, plus I'm not real active on the forums (life and work always get in the way), I find it quite amazing that I have gotten so many views (and some great comments/critques as well).

I just wanted to thank the community, and Rendo, for providing an environment where we can share our art work, no matter how good our skills are, and get positive feedback for our efforts. I know if it wasn't for Rendo, probably the only person that would ever see my renders is my wife.

I hope it's OK that I posted this in the Poser forum, since most of my renders are done in Carrara, but I'm sure than the majority of the the people looking at my images use Poser, so I felt the "Thank You!" should go here.

Thanks Again!
DR

Seriously there is some good lighting technique in there, particularly this one:

Thanks! It just really hit me in an very unusual way, humbling, I felt compeled to try thank those who have looked at my images. I try to make images that I like, and I think convey what I wanted, in an artistic manner. There are a couple of images I'm considering pulling, because they aren't as good as I would like, but the others are close to what I had in my "minds eye". But I also know that art/beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and often what the "artist" feels is is worth sharing with others, isn't always something that others find quite so appealing. I'm just amazed that so many people have found my images interesting enough to look at with so many fantastic artist here.

lol  Really....I wasn't running around yealling "7000" , honest.  OK.....so I did mention it a "few" times to my wife. Thanks for the compliment as well, I do work on the lighting a lot, some day I may actually get it exactly the way I want it. Of course HDRI in Carrara does help a lot. I still can't get the light right in Poser, but I haven't really tried since the last image I posted done with Poser (they're the ones I'm considering pulling).

My advice is To not pull any of your work..  It was good enough to post when you created it.  Leave it there so You can compare,  or perhaps even go back to re-create the same (or similar) image using newly developed skills..

P.S.     I am looking forward to achieving 50,000 views..  Party time and all will be invited..

DustRider ( ) posted Tue, 02 February 2010 at 12:26 AM

50,000 views? That's definitely worth a party! Let's see, it took almost five years for me to get 7,000 ....so..... I can have my 50,000 party in another 7 years, or get busy and do more than 3 images a year :-)

You have a very good point about not pulling images from the gallery. Maybe I'll revisit one of them (the other was a free-bee promo image).

I'd say your grey matter is working quite well!
Mine on the other hand .... is more like grey mush.

I finally had the time to look at each of your galleries. Wow, you ALL do very unique and outstanding work. I'm amazed by the quality of the renders you are getting from Poser. It's not that I don't think Poser can't do top quality renders, but I find it very difficult to get good lighting and renders in Poser. You must have spent a great deal of time working on your skills/techniques.

WOW!!! Just six months and 7 images after my original post, the number of views in my gallery has almost doubled over my first 5 years (from 7,100 to 13,500)!

Another huge thanks to the Rendo community!!!

I agree. Do NOT delete anything. You'll only regret it. In five years or so they're a nostalgic "oh my" moment :)

My gallery stretches way back the the very first pics I uploaded. By today's standard, they're FUGLY... but I keep them there as a reminder of how much I have improved (well I'd like to think I've improved at least)

Whoever dies with the most nude content wins.

NoelCan ( ) posted Sun, 18 July 2010 at 12:42 AM

Who cares about nudity...?   As long as the image is ok...!

Clothes take way too long to render anyway...!!!!!

DustRider ( ) posted Mon, 19 July 2010 at 12:16 AM

Shawn - Hmmm....If whoever dies with the most nude content (images?) wins - I certainly won't win, since half of my images aren't nudes, plus several were flaged for nudity just to be safe (don't like to push the TOS), and I only have 22 images in my gallery anyway. Of course, it should be all be about making images that the the creator enjoys making, not about creating images for popularity. I've enjoyed making the images in my gallery, and am quite amazed when so many others like them as well. Rendo is a great release for me because I don't have any friends that would be interested in my renders, so that leaves just one person to share my work with. My wife is supportive, but isn't into it very much.

NoelCam - I don't think I'll be catching up any time soon. I hope your not posting much for a while due to other more exciting things in your life (like traveling). My posting will be down as well due to job and personal responsibilities - the usual - life getting in the way of life. Thanks and take care!

TrekkieGrrrl - Thanks for the words of wisdom, I'll do think I will keep my gallery "in-tact" with no deletions. I'm just glad I never posted any of the first Poser renders I did - they were really bad!! I find one floating around on a hard drive every no and then - I always wonder why I even saved them.

My first Poser renders look like Oscar movie award trophies.  But that's how most Poser 1.0 figures looked.

I started with Poser3 (but have Poser2), Carrara Studio 2, and C4D 6. Unfortunately I couldn't afford the upgrades with C4D. At the time, the render engine in Carrara was as good as C4D, but modeling  was much easier in C4D. Now I use Hexagon and Carrara for modeling. The attached image is from my first modeling project with C4D (and a little Carrara). It's much better than my early Poser stuff!!
