I already own Vue 6 Pro Studio and was considering the upgrade. Have you found 8 to be much more CPU-intensive than 6? If anyone has a comparable machine, would like to know your thoughts.

Computer is dual 2.3 G5; 8GB ram, plenty of hard disk, 256mb nVidia GeForce 6800 ultra card. (runs what I have fine). Thanks.

I would try the PLE first because I am not sure whether generation 8 runs on your machine.

 Thank you. Infinite, which is what PLE is based on, is not going to work for me as it's intel only. However, according to the specs, Esprit, Studio and Complete should be fine (1.25 PPC or greater).  But the reason I ask is because even though the specs are OK for Studio, sometimes in the "real world" people are getting other behaviors, which is what I hoped to find out.

Isn't there a trial for every Vue version? You better chack that and then test your prefered version.

I'm in/or near the same boat, considering the upgrade and pretty much convinced from their specs that Vue 8 will only run well on a MacIntel. 

The G5 might run Vue 8 but it may seem very slow. This is the case with Poser 8 on a G5. It runs but sluggishly. One the MacIntel Poser 8 runs very nicely.

I had Vue Infinite 7 on a Dual G5 and it was very buggy and crashed often.The same Vue 7 Infinite ran alot better and more stable on my 8-core Intel Mac. Not sure about Vue 8, I would guess it's the same.

I tried the trial version of Vue 8 Complete and loaded a scene I had done with Vue 6.  Interface-wise, it seemed pretty much the same as Vue 6 to manipulate my objects. (actually the specs are the same as Vue 6). In terms of render speed, I can't know because the trial has rendering limitations.

However, when I tried the Eco-paint, it was pretty sluggish to paint even a few rocks into the same scene as there was a lag time. I wasn't even doing trees.

My major reasons for the upgrade was for the new things like terrain, sky, and especially the eco-paint. Now I'm thinking it may be better to skip it.

I'm starting to feel I'd rather use older software (i.e. leaner) on this machine which will be really fast, than get new software which will run slow. It's not like nice images can't be done with 6. ;)

One thing I will mention though, is when I launched the app, it said my graphics card did not support the current OpenGL required by Vue 8, but it gave the option to use a different setting. I just now launched Vue 8 to get the specific OpenGL info, but today it won't even launch after repeated attempts. 

Maybe that's my answer. Just saved some money.

But I would also welcome anyone else having used it for a while to chime in.

 From a Vue 5 Infinite perspective I have wanted to upgrade for a while because most Vue materials coming my way won't work in V5Inf. 

I hear your strategy for keeping the money. As you said, whatever it is you're trying to say with pictures, it not like Vue 6 will be so archaic looking.

deci6el, I know what you mean on the decreasing items for 5Inf. At least you have infinite which probably works well on the G5, and that does have the eco-paint, right? I made the decision to stay with this machine for now. It may not have the speed of the new macs, but is still a good machine. I have no problem running any of the software I own, and runs really well. (In a way, I haven't even gotten my mileage out of it yet). And as for my 3D content, it's probably more than what I could use in a lifetime. I was hoping to get in with this last version, but if it's not going to run right, I'd rather stay with what does.

I have a final generation G5 dual 2Ghz tower with an GeForce 6600 LE (128 Mb) ( It works well with the Vue 7.5 Infinite PLE! Ecosystem painting works quite well- so far I;ve tried 3 or 4 plant types.

 I have Vue 5 Inf and have until Tuesday to upgrade to 8 Infinite for $395. After that it is full price.
Sounds good except I would need a  new computer! Intel Mac. I wish I could find a (legitimate) Vue Infinite 7.5 to purchase!

I will have to look for the Vue 8 Complete PLE.
