Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
This is what happens when a program's configuration file becomes corrupted. There is a file called 'Poser' that is a configuration settings file. It will not go away when you uninstall. You could do a search for files by the name of Poser and find the one that is of the configuration settings type. Delete it and then start Poser.
If this doesn't work, do a search for 'preferedState' which is a Poser scene file. Delete that as well.

Search and destroy 'Poser UI Prefs'and 'Library Prefs' as well as the files mentioned above.
If you can find the 'Applications Data' folder you might be best off just deleting the Poser 6 folder that is found there. In Windows XP it is in Documents and SettingsAdministratorApplication DataPoser 6.
If Poser still doesn't start, delete all of these files, uninstall and reinstall again.

it doesn't get that far it says loading plugins and stuff on opening screen then screen turns white and it closes ...
i have deleted all these files and stuff like you said except for admi stuff cause there is no poser6 folder in there
i deleted the poser6 runtime and uninstalled it and reinstalled it
stilll doing it ... it opens up to opening screen and says loading plays the opening screen stuff screen just dissappears gone
program closes
In Windows folder options/view is 'Show hidden files and folders' enabled? If not, check the box and then look for a Poser file in applications data as previously described.
If that fails, contact Smith Micro.

If it's really bad and deleting the Prefs didn't work, you could always do a full re-install.
Not as bad as it sounds, see below:
Cut your runtime from the application, put it somewhere else safe, uninstall Poser making sure you go into your drive and delete any files still there manually.
Do a clean re-install, then delete the runtime from your new install, then put your original one back in from wherever you put it.
This is do-able, I have done it previously with Poser 6 when I had a hard drive fry on me, it does work and will prolly sort out your problem if nothing else does..

Did you completely remove everything, even the folders that are left behind after an uninstall?
It's really important that every trace of it is gone before doing a re-install.
If you've done that, what about any recent changes you've made to your rig, can you use system restore to go back or maybe do a virus scan just in case you have a bad critter sitting somewhere...

i gues ..thats whats called virus infected ...
So i think a triple virus check by diffrent programs might be in order..
if i get a sytem on my desk that has these problems..9/10 its a virus infection

If you have removed all the preferences files as described above, and done a clean reinstall of Poser to no avail, then it is probably nothing to do with Poser which, as you say, was working recently. You need to look for other causes.
Something else on your computer system is causing the problem.
Check the system error logs. They may give a clue as to what application or module is causing the problem. Check the application error log as well as the System error log.
Have you updated your graphics driver or changed its settings? You could try switching off advanced features of your graphics card (hardware acceleration et al.) just to see if they are causing the problem. Even boot in Safe Mode so that your graphics driver doesn't load. This will help you to identify whether or not there is a conflict with your video driver.

It's very unlikely that its a virus, despite comments above.
The vast majority of software malfunctions are caused by hardware faults (RAM etc.), misconfiguration, driver incompatibilities, incorrect access rights, shared files being overwritten and so on.
Many of these issues can be complex and hard to understand. It's much easier to just say 'it's a virus', but the chances are it's not.
Viruses actually tend not to cause any problems. It is in their interest to go unnoticed, not to attract attention to themselves by causing problems from which they don't benefit.

It was working before I can't think of anything i have done to my system that would make it just stop
it loads up but if you go to do something no error it just closes ...
I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it and it still does it I figure it's a conflict somewhere but i have no ideal what it could be ...
It's annoying me bad .. I want too use my program and it just won't load up
also i thought when you uninstalled a program it took everything with it .. it doesn't ask me to put my serial number back in and all of my installed content is still in the program it let me load it up but when i went to delete the figure it crashed and just closed ...
