Subject: What can I do to improve this image?

FightingWolf ( ) posted Mon, 08 February 2010 at 4:31 PM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 8:20 PM

I just created a new character and I'm ready to throw her into a scene, but there are improvements that need to be made to be made first.  If you have a suggestion for material improvements or lighting improvements then I'm more than willing to learn about the improvements that you would make to this image.  I would also be interested in any suggestions for improvements even if it's not related to materials and lighting.

Keep in mind this is just a draft render created with 3 lights and I haven't done anything to the picture or have even begun to work on possible improvements.  Hopefully this will help me learn some new things from others.  Thanks in advance.

  1. make the eyes "less" blue.

  2. Put a displacement map on the etching of the harness.

  3. A rong or something on one of the fingers.
    Just my 2 cents.

PS, Nice figure

Leave the eyes at their current color... it adds to the fantasy feel of the character. I do agree about the displacement map, though. As to a ring on the finger... ummm... not if she's an archer.

In sort, I think she's pretty awesome as she is!

You have gotten 2 opinions about the eyes.  Decide how you want to appoarch your character, realistic or fantasy.  She is an archer, perhaps a hunter.  She shouldn't be wearing light colors, too high profile, too visible.  I agree about the displacement mapping for the outfit details.  I would also suggest changing the hair style.  An archer needs clear sight, no obstacles, no interference.

I learned long ago that you can't please everyone. You will always have someone that likes something while someone else hates that same thing.

The best you can do is to please your own eye and those with the same taste in art will be pleased too.

2 cents are good here.  Since I'm trying to get some information about some things that I think about as I try to figure out what scene will be good for this character.

The one thing that I wish I could find is a Bow that responds to the tension of the string being pulled.  I found a modern bow that does that but not one from a later time period or a of a fantasy design.  Maybe a bow will be my first 3D model that I'll try to make.

I like the blue color of her eyes.  If you want to do anything with them, maybe add a little pink to the corners of the whites.

Her lips seem to have too much specular lighting (glossy?).  Also the curve thing between her lips and nose is very pronounced.  I kinda like it, but there are others that won't.

Other than that, it seems okay.

WARK!

The hand that holds the bow needs to have the wrist guard, not the hand that draws the string.  By the position of the quiver, she's obviously right handed, so she'd hold the bow in her left hand.  Unless she's got wrist guards on both forearms, (which I can't tell from your render), then the wrist guard on her right forearm needs to be on her left, so as to protect her arm against the snap of the bowstring.
