Subject: Deleting frames from an animation

BucmaTemar ( ) posted Thu, 11 February 2010 at 1:19 PM · edited Sat, 08 February 2025 at 9:33 PM

So I used the cloth room & simulator to get an outfit to fit nice, and that worked out ok.

Problem is...  It's not until frame 30 where everything is done, and I don't see a reason to keep the other 29 frames.  Is there a way to delete them?  I saw I could delete KeyFrames, but that's not what I think I'm after.

I know if I wanted to delete frames 2-30, I could just change the frame thingy at the bottom to say Frame 1 of 1, but I can't figure out a way to get rid of frames 1-29 instead.

Thanks in advance.

You don't have to delete them, just don't use them. Start your render at the frame you want. if it's an animation, just start the animation at frame 30 to the end. If it's a still image, just render the frame you want. If you delete them, your cloth simulation won't work since it is set up to start at the same place no matter what you do. If you remove the first 29 frames, your cloth simulation will still start at what used to be frame 1 not what used to be frame 30.

But to answer your question anyway, open the animation pallet and select the key frames starting at frame 30 all the way to the end, and then drag all the key frames back to frame 1. Then just delete the left over frames. You can also do it with "Animation/Retime animation". Source frames 30 to X. Destination frames: 1-X

I guess I was thinking that once I finished the simulation, I could just keep the results.  So that won't work, eh?

What if it wasn't a cloth simulation. What if you just liked frame 25, not just the pose, but the light, texture, for 3 people and 24 props, so a pose won't due etc can you save a single frame to a new file, or delete all but one frame?

To keep the results, you can export it out as a obj at the frame you want to keep it. This way it will retain the shape from the simulation at that frame.

I edited my first post a couple of times to describe a couple ways of doing this. You can also use "Edit/Memorize all" on the frame you want and then "Edit/Restore all" on frame one, but only if you are doing a still image. If it's an animation, open the animation pallet and select the key frames for everything in the scene, rather than just the one figure starting at the frame you want and select them all to the end by clicking and dragging and then release the mouse button and then drag all the key frames back to one.

The other option is to save your animation as a series of still images (I use .png format as it's lossless and has a chromakey color.) At that point you can composite the images into whatever format you need. I used to use a freebie program called png2avi but I've since been using the same feature built into Premiere.
