Can Vue do this?

It would be great to be able to drape a cloth like thing over an item and have the cloth conform to the underlying items shape as in this Carrara 8 you tube clip. Although I don't animate. I would just like this for stills.

It looks like Carrara 8 will have this. it's just a few seconds, take a look.

I do that in Poser and then import into Vue.

Yea, as Shawn says, you do a dynamic cloth simulation in Poser, save it  and import it into Vue at the end frame.

With poser if you do a dynamic cloth simulation (lets say 30 frames) and take 20 drape frames to set up. If you delete the drape frames or some of the 30 animation frames it messes up your simulation. Do you need to export ALL these frames to Vue or can you import only the frames you want.

thefixer ( ) posted Sun, 14 February 2010 at 8:43 AM

Example: I do a 30 frame simulation in Poser with my last frame being the one I want in Vue. On the import option in Vue tick "import single frame" and put 30 in the box and it will just bring in the last frame. By the same token I could specify any frame from 1 to 30, sometimes I may specify frame 25 if I think the sim looks better at that point, just in case I've used too much settlement of the cloth which I normally do between frames 25 to 30.
Is that what you wanted?

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
Right now I'm digging into Vue itself learning it.

If this feature was in Vue somewhere I wanted to make sure I was not missing it. I thought maybe Vue has this feature called by some other name.

I kinda figured that poser could do that. I quit using poser a long time ago. I still have version 5 though. But thanks for mentioning a way to get er done.

I was hoping not to have to use more 3rd party software than I already use. (like that's gonna happen) LOL

By the time I really learn well what I have, what I have will be obsolete or very close.
I can only console myself with the fact that it's pretty much the same boat we are all in.

I think there maybe be about 50 spongee minded genius people spread over the various continents.
I think I met one once, a person that can learn in 6 weeks that which takes me about 18 months to learn.

Thanks
Frank

You could do it in Blender - run the sim then apply the modifier to the mesh and export as .obj
